Hi,

Having just bought an Asus R9 390 Strix i am just wondering if i would be voiding the warranty by putting on a NZXT G10 cooler? I would video the whole thing to prove i didnt damage anything by putting it on so cant see why i would be penalised. According to reviews this NZXT cooler drops load temps by approx 50 degrees on this card.

If it would void the warranty, would this change if i had somebody like ocuk to do it for me?

Don't ask, don't tell.

According to review pictures there is no warranty void sticker so there is no way they'd find out unless you lost the original cooler parts or physically damaged the board during installation which would require a major accident to do (think dropping a hammer on the dye)

There is no "warranty void if removed" sticker but there is a little white circular sticker over one of the screws to get the back plate off (white sticker with a little red circle in the middle).

They would know it had been removed then

If i do it, i might get a magnifying glass, some tweezers and then pull it off really careful. Stick it to some non stick paper and then keep it in case i get a problem. I could then just reapply TIM (anyone know what brand they use?) and then reattach everything and pop the little sticker back over the screw.

I will test this thoroughly before even thinking about doint it so if it all works perfectly, lowering the heat from 85 peak to approx 55 peak cant be a bad thing so should prolong its life surely.

be careful because some manufacturers have painted screws that mark when removed so they can see the cooler has come off, eg Zotac.

Dont forget recommend you get VRM heatsinks with the G10. Gelid used to do a VRM cooler for the 290 that might fit the 390 but you could only get it from the US.

The Strix cooler on my 390 is very quiet from my experience. IMO, its not worth changing the cooler. Maybe you can improve the air flow in your case?

If you bought it from OcUK after the Asus Turbo RMA announcement, gibbo said:

Hi there

I also contacted Asus regarding cooler removal, their official response for OcUK returns:

So if customer ask, we need to give a clear answer => we do not suggest to do so, but if they do, than OK (unless damage is caused by replaced cooler or damage happens during removal / installation of a cooler).
