I guess you both completly missed the point with the HL reference, it wasn't a comparison, I'll try to explain....
The guy was talking about his disdain at how new games treat players. Half Life probably hasn't been beaten for it's fantastic story, gun play and difficulty. In Half-Life you had to work everything out for yourself, no ingame wall hacks , no massive pointers showing you where to go next, no flashing boxes to show you it can be opened. HL gave the player a total sense of satisfaction because they worked it out for themselves, they got through by trial and error it was compelling to complete. He is making reference to the lack of any of that within The Division and most modern 'NG' games.
I agree with probably 98% of what he says, but you know what, I found The Division beta fun! I guess it was the Dark Zone that made it for me as the PvE section was pure rinse and repeat tedium, however stiffing someone in PvP who thought you were friendly and robbing their loot was a hoot. Will I be buying it ? not on release not until they can stop the hackers and it's dropped in price.
