What should I be asking for my car?

Not sure yet if it will be p/ex or private sale, p/ex easier but I probably have an option to get a car at very good price but will need to be cash only

The reason I am struggling to value is mine had high mileage for model and not seen any with similar mileage so after any advice

2009/59 (sept) Jaguar XKR convertible, lunar grey, 98,000 miles

I am second owner, full Jag main dealer service history and been under Jag warranty from new though don't think it's transferable but it does show that any faults would have been sorted

no significant cosmetic issues though 2 wheels need a refurb

if it's relevant it has a brand new warranty gearbox about a year ago fitted by main dealer

Spec tends not to vary on these much as they all had everything as standard

24k sounds way too rich for a private sale. Look at the various threads recently about people struggling to sell cars - you cant base your valuation asking prices on a dealer forecourt. Looking at other private sales theres an older but much lower mileage one up for 23k. We all know that cars explode once they reach 100k, at least in the mind of most of the public - so the 98k mileage is going to hurt the value and limit the audience for it.

What do WBAC say? My hunch would be that your own expectations of 21-22 are closer to the mark, but if you want to sell it quickly then you need to widen the appeal of it - making it cheap would be the only way to do that I reckon. You're competing against dealer cars - with warranties and finance packages, lower mileage for 21-23k. This one at 21k has "0" miles so assume it's relatively high

Is it the 5.0 or the older 4.2 litre?

If the latter you're probably spot on. The 5.0 goes for a bit more but I still think you'd struggle selling it privately with that mileage. Got to hold out for the right buyer I guess.

WBAC £17.5k :eek:

the advantage I have over older cars is the older ones will be pre facelift 4.2s so mine would prob be cheapest 5.0 on market

I'd be surprised if you could get anything like 24k private sale then!

I'll stand by my 19,999 suggestion unless you're happy to wait for the right buyer. It stands out because it'll be one of the only ones where the price starts with a 1 - which might be enough for someone to overlook the mileage.

I'm far from an expert, I'm just putting myself in the shoes of a buyer who'd be searching for one of these
 
WBAC now 16,580 was 17500 last week :p I never thought in a million years I would get anything like 24k , if I got 20k it would be ok as I am likely to get replacement at well under going rate

F type 3.0S probably, got a mate of a mate who is dealer principle for a group of Jag ADs so reckons he can get me about 4k off an approved car
 
Have you driven one yet? Nice car but take a 991.1 on a test drive before you decide. It's probably going to cost less to own over 2 or 3 years.

Yes, had one for 2 days

Love the 997 but would have to buy too old and too high miles and I wouldn't trust engine reliability on a gen 1

looks like the Jag bloke might take mine, mentioned £19k so whole package could be decent
 
A man of your high standing and generosity would I'm sure be glad to agree to a simple straight swap with a fellow forum member, you've secretly always fancied an e39 530i Sport.... Ahem. ;) :D

the base 3.0 doesn't seem to get such good reviews and misses a few things like active exhaust, the 5.0 just aren't in my price bracket tbh and general opinion seems to be the 3.0S is the best of the bunch

Ah that's why I asked, I remember when they were fist released people were speculation if the 3.0S would be the drivers car of the bunch.
