Plenty of nice places in Northumberland to visit. Beadnell/seahouses/Alnwick/holy island /bamburgh , to name a few. Stunning fabulous beaches.

Whitby, some of the best fish and chips available, can also take a walk down to Robin Hood Bay.

Yesterday I booked another trip up to the lake District for a few weeks time, planning on doing Bowfell, Crinkle Crags and probably Pike O' Stickle again! My favourite getaway in the UK. I do love other areas of the country - Yorkshire, Exmoor, Cornwall, etc. but I find the Lake District the most peaceful. Tend go head to the entrance to the Langdale Pikes - fewer lakes but incredible scenery, and if you're lucky you can avoid seeing another human being for several hours. Photos taken on phone but:

We did a little road trip a year or so back and we went to Bournemouth (got family there but there's some nice places locally), Bath, Cheltenham, and the Cotswolds (in particular Bourton-on-the-Water). I'd definitely recommend Bath and the Cotswolds.

Loads of places in the UK are nice,
Yorkshire dales (Malham cove, Robins hood Bay etc)
Lake district,
North wales,
Scotland (highlands/coast etc.)
Peak district

If you're into heritage sites then Westminster Abbey Tower of London, Bath, Rievaulx or Fountains Abbeys, Durham Cathedral. Avebury. Stonehenge. In the London sites you're likely to far outnumber the natives honestly.

If you visit the scottish highlands and islands and north Wales apart from the scenary you'll probably get to hear the natives speak something other than English which always seems to amaze Americans. (And if you are american we don't all speak like the Queen. Seriously.)
