I may have posted this a while back, sorry if I did.
Last year, for my 40th, my brother bought me one of those car experiences - yes we all know this amounts to around 4-5 laps in a car with someone sat besides you, although I am assured by others who have done similar that although there is a high chance there are limiters on the car you are encourages to "use it" and enjoy the drive.
Anyway, tomorrow morning I'm going to get the opportunity to drive an Aston around at Blyton Park in Lincoln.

Included in all of the safety instructions, rules & regulations it talks about "damage to the car" and excesses and then mentions an available "pay on the day" waiver for £25 which basically means you total the vehicle you don't have to pay anything.

I'm always wary of on the day additions and upsell's and just wonder if anyone has done one of these, did they take this out or not. Any other thoughts on it at all?
I told my brother about it and he said he'd give me the £25 (as it was a birthday present) however if I don't have to waste his £25 I'd rather not.

Cheers all.

I wouldn't bother personally, you aren't likely going to be allowed into a position where you could accidently damage the car. I assume you'll be getting told to slow down at the first sign of approaching a corner too fast.

Depends how you plan to drive it, when I went on a Gallardo day I took it out as I was 4 wheel sliding it around some of the corners.

Then I watched some people who you could have walked around the track faster.

Pay it. You're on track, something could happen, £25 isn't a lot to walk away from totalling the car and not worrying about it.

Means you can also go for it, drive it like you stole it :D

I've driven at Blyton plenty of times and in most places you'd have to go some to damage a car there anyway. When it does happen it's almost always on the exit of the chicane on the far side of the circuit, if you get on the power too early out of the right in the middle of the chicane you can get a fishtail going and get spat out towards the outside of the circuit where there's not much run off so if you're worried out it, just be a bit wary through there.

Well say you did total a car and hadn't paid the waiver....Surely the company would already have insurance in place to cover this?

What are they going to charge you for exactly?

They normally charge you excess don't they, which would be a few hundred £, which I wouldn't be surprised if they don't get charged that at all. So the £25 would just be for admin fee I guess.

I read that as "we'll try and blame the accident on your negligence and force you to pay the 5 grand, regardless anyway"

You don't have to pay the first 5k, what about the rest.

I will check, but I read that as very badly worded "Without the £25 waiver you've got a £5k excess".
As I'm assuming totalling the vehicle isn't going to be an easy job, anyone causing damage is going to end up paying for the repairs unless they take the £25 gamble up front.

I've got a day to think about it, probably leaning towards paying it just for my own piece of mind.

I just booked one of these this morning, I paid the extra £25. I think the likely hood of me crashing or damaging the car is slim to none, but with this I will feel a little safer pushing it that bit harder.

I'm doing mine on 22nd of March, driving a Lambo and a GTR.

I did one last year around Prestwold with Everyman Racing , drove 6 cars.. Never bothered with the waiver as it was £45! The instructor's I had told me when to change gear and brake, got rather annoying to be fair but had a cracking morning any how!

I read that as - if you pay £25, you don't have to pay for damage which costs less than £5K to repair. Anything over that and you will be bent over a barrel?

I bet you they are actually insured for most of the first £5K. They really expecting to go to the time and effort of collecting that much from random member of the public, going through the courts?

It is just a scheme to cover some of their insurance costs through scaring the person.

The damage waiver Cover is void if found to be driving negligently/dangerously or not listening to the instructors instructions.

So they can blame it on you anyway as for "you" to cause damage you'd have to be going beyond the instructors limits.

I've never bothered but I bet loads just pay it for peace of mind.

I think they would have a very hard time pinning insurance excess or a repair bill on someone for crashing on a track. Sounds like a money grabbing exercise.

If you paid for track day insurance on your own car and let someone else drive, theres no way you could make them pay a penny if they binned it.
