BMW M5 F10 ownership cost?

Running costs of an F10 M5 under warranty won't be that high. The servicing is pretty cheap (and get one under 5 years/50k miles old and you may get some free) and even BMW won't charge you much for discs and pads.

This is what makes one very appealing.

Good value now, prices will still **** in the next 18 months however, these will be in the 20's then.

And this is what scares me about buying one.

The total cost of ownership would genuinely be worse than buying an AM V8V even if the clutch went bang.

Have you bought one yet? :p

If you keep it a while they'll settle in the 20's for a while. However if you chop it in within a year then yep I'd say you'll be losing more.

A 530d is basically the same car.

The more I tell myself this the more I might believe it one day.

Not quite. The 535d is closer...

But hilarity at the suggestion that the M5 would be too expensive in TOC, so get an RS6 instead. Genius.

I think I'll be looking around November time to change my car now. And hoping for some good M5 or similar lease deals. Although the S8 lease deal from a few months ago would work too.

Will you leave the M5 on the driveway for months when it reaches it's mileage limit and drive around in an old Seat bus trying to convince people that you prefer the Seat and it has nothing to do with the extra money per mile?

I thought this when I owned a, 530i until I bought an m5

The only time they are similar is doing 70 on a motorway.

You seem to think my 5 series doesn't get used or something? Sure, it's use profile has dropped such than it has gone from doing 18,000 miles per year, to more like 5,000 - 8,000 miles per year, but it is hardly "left on the driveway".

As for the prefer my Seat bit. Clearly it's a matter of needs / kids preferences. They prefer being driven in the Seat, they are happier in the Seat, so every trip is quieter in the Seat.

Sure, when I go to work, or take the wife out for dinner / cinema, I / we take the 5 series. If we have the kids with us, it's in the Seat.

Different cars are used for different things. Some cars are better at some things than others. So I use the car that is best suited to the drive ahead. What is so difficult to see about that?

I do openly admit it has almost reached it's mileage limit though (the 5 series obviously). But that is only a fabricated limit on the deal I took the car out with. And I care not one bit about going over it. It's not exactly breaking the bank with the excess mileage charge. But I do plan on VT-ing the car anyway, so the mileage the car has done has no real consequence regardless.
