As per title im looking to get a dash cam only for purpose of incase its needed. Not looking to use it for useable footage to show folks etc just insurance if i need it since im doing a lot of driving at the moment and someone nearly head on smashed into me yesterday morning its shook me up slightly to get one.

Also a mobile phone mount.. i go through these like crazy as i use bigger phones these seem to break, Using a 5.7 inch phone moto x style atm so must be capable and strong.

Seen something called a spider mount wondered if anyone uses one?

So any recommendations for both?
Budget for cam is 70 or less
mount id say 15-20

There's a whole thread about dashcams on here

For a phone mount, get a Brodit mount specifically for your car and the holder for your phone

Would use a brodit but i use a case and brodits are not case friendly :( I have debated one before but its a lot of hassle to uncase it each time.

And a thread? I did look but maybe i wasnt looking hard enough. thanks :)

I use a little kenu vent mount holder - it's great as you hardly notice it's there when not in use and is adjustable.

It's only used for a z5 compact (and previously similar sized phones) though so I dunno how well it would or wouldn't last with a bigger phone

Kenu Airframe for the phone mount/holder. There's a couple of different sizes, I have the larger one for my iPhone 6 Plus and it's absolutely perfect. No window marks since it attaches to the vents in your car.

As for the dash cam, Transcend 16 GB DrivePro 200 from Amazon (or one of the higher models if budget and or requirements allow).

I have always been skeptical on them kenu ones. They look like that would drop my phone a lot or not grip well as its quite a deep phone with case on.

Transcend dash cams look good also iv seen cheap little ones but worry if there so cheap are they worth using.

As for both i don't care were i order from or how long it takes to arrive i just need to get them both. Will look up the universal brodit now also i had no idea about it

They have rubber grips on the side and the spring type return is reasonably strong so I couldn't see the phone slipping being a problem - the only thing I ever struggle with is getting a suitable place for the phone to go in without blocking buttons, but that's more down to mine being a smallish handset

I wouldn't want a lot of weight hanging from some of the flimsy modern vents though

Never once had a problem with the Kenu grip on my relatively heavy phone.

Rodenal is correct however, you need a decent vent to make the best of it. Older vent designs such as my E46 worth perfectly. I'll get a photo up later.

+1 on the Kenu Airframe, I have one in all three of my cars and they fit any phone I've had, I do like the specific phone mounts as they mount nicely but as my wife has a different phone and often uses the cars its handier to have a generic one. Only slightly annoying thing is with the 'book' style cases it can bit a bit dodgy as it sort of squashes the front part of the case when you fold it over.

I have a mk5 astra and the vents are slat styled and very weak. This is one of my concerns over a vent mount with a single clip. if i could secure it over afew slats maybe it would be a none issue but cant find any with multiple hooks or clips to secure it

Suction cups are instantly out. Hate them

If it has a point where it could mount in between both horizontal and vertical slats it'll be fine, otherwise I'd look elsewhere

Horizontal only, they're a very poor design. I'm looking at the spider mount again I'm just hoping someone comes into this thread who has one and can say if they're good or flimsy bits of rubbish

I have a CD mount osomount holder. Never use CDs any more, so no problem with that. Holds a Nokia 830 ,which has a 5inch screen perfectly. Has a release button on the top, and to hold the phone you put it in, and press it back into the case, the arms come in against the phone, holds it very securely.

Can't comment on dash cam question, as dont have one.

AS for dashcam, I have a Nextbase 202 Lite. Seems to work ok, costs around 50 quid. As for phone holder, I'm on the prowl for one myself so I'll be interested to see how you get on.

Kenu air frame for my iPhone 6S Plus, and E-Prance 805 dash cam, sits nicely above the windscreen so it can hardly be seen.
