Life changing philosophical thoughts

Life is a competition.
That one is not really a philosophy and I'm fairly sure I made it up, either that or I read it somewhere forgot about it and it's stuck with me. It motivates me either way.

Hate losing more than you love winning.
And that's a classic.

(pushes bowl of sweets off desk)...

ummm... can I have the new sweat free version:confused::D

No nuggets of wisdom apart from realising that there's nobody on Earth I'd rather be than me. Not the wealthiest banker or the most beautiful person or anyone, just me. Sure I wouldn't mind Bill Gates' money but if it means having to be him, then no thanks.

This means I never ever envy anyone anything or wish I was someone else. I'm genuinely happy for someone that wins the lottery or gets married to the love of their lives. No jealousy ever, just pleased for them.

So, self acceptance. Mayb that's a nugget for someone.

To add I HATE most of this one line philosophy as mostly it's total garbage used by people to make themselves appear erudite. LinkedIn seems to be afflicted with it at the moment, it's tiresome. Sure there are some gems out there, but 95% of it is utter crap that is meaningless and often contradictory or pathetically weak.

hehe
False hope is nicer than no hope at all.

Obviously I had thought about it before but it'd been a few years since I'd genuinely given it much thought (clearly my thought processes have changed now) and since reading the thread it has really made me take a slightly different outlook on everything.

I mean just think about this, barring some crazy medical breakthrough, everyone who is alive on this planet today is going to be dead at some point and most of us won't be remembered.

Regardless of whether you believe in an afterlife it's got to be pretty daunting that one day we're no longer going to be who were right now.

It has made me think about appreciating life more (not that I didn't previously) and it really does make you think that pretty much most things in life don't really matter as much as we think they do...

Food for thought, that's for sure.

Know the name of a demon and you have power over it.
I've seen this in many books/films before I figured out what it meant. The demon is a human flaw, knowing its name is understanding it and doing so means you can control it.

Keep your weaknesses in plain sight, wear them like an armour and no one can use them to hurt you.

Had it in my signature for years. Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better. Then my new one :)

There's no value doing something if it's easy. Keep trying, keep improving. An achievement is only an achievement if it cost you something.

Also, don't judge yourself against others, judge yourself against your former self.

If you want food for thought then there is only one video that every human being with the means to do so needs to watch.

From 3.7 billion miles away, it's just us.

Not sure it's massively life changing but this one by Fiedrich Nietzsche has been on my mind since I read it a few months back;

Be careful, lest in casting out your demon you exorcise the best thing in you.
