However, to be motivated to behead a child, you clearly have to be mentally ill. I hope we can all agree on that. What she did really isn't an act of terrorism though, it's just an horiffic murder. To say that it has anything to do with her religion I think is ridiculous, she could have been anyone.

I'm also thinking along the same lines. Only someone with truly mental health issues would carry this despicable act.

There is absolutely nothing in Islam that gives us permission to behead or kill babies/kids.

Of course people and the media won't see past their ignorance of Muslims and Islam.

What? Frankly to deny that it is anything to do with her religion is ridiculous given her quite clear statement linking it to her religion.

Its like a white supremacist shouting 'I hate *******' whilst stringing up a black kid in a tree and people saying it's got nothing to do with racism or white supremacy, he's just mentally ill. Mental illness might well play a part but denying the rather obvious and quite clearly stated link is just ridiculous.

I don't agree that these people aren't mentally ill, or at least they fall on some extreme end on the scale of acceptable human behaviour before you reach what is technically determined mentally ill. The behaviour of this women is not that of a sane person. I suspect the reason why she involved her religion is that she was so far into her pit, as it were, that calling herself a terrorist just gave her more power, in her mind.

To call her sane is just nonsense.

Why? Those examples cover multiple individuals, it isn't like the Nazis, for example, only recruited mentally ill people to work at death camps or to involve themselves in experiments.

not necessarily, its already been pointed out to you that there are many instances in which humans who don't suffer from mental illness can carry out wicked acts. She might well be mentally ill, but asserting that she'd have to be is nonsense.

as much as you may hate it sane people do incredibly cruel, barbaric and ****ed up stuff.

This is the type of crime that deserves the death penalty. The poor little girl.

It sounds like the woman is mentally ill, but then it is hard to tell the difference between religious extremists (yes, all of them) and the mentally ill.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I am not saying all mentally ill are going to behave like religious extremists.
