As the title says, my brother in law has just passed his test (auto only) and needs help with car suggestions. £1,000 to spend and needs to be auto + all the standard requirements for a new driver.

How about this? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...=used,nearlynew,new&postcode=mk22lq&logcode=p

Of course he has a good reason - he has a learning difficulty.
I think a fair few numpties may do it without a good reason.

I'm sure you couldn't really go wrong with that Yaris, cheap to fix and easy to park and MOT until November. Might be worth asking when its service is due?

e: Oh, apart from that it has a huge dent in the rear bumper? And it has some strange colouration on the rear drivers side door. And the front bumper doesn't look like it's on properly.

I take my statement back that you couldn't go wrong with it :p

Personally I wouldn't even consider that Yaris given the dent in the rear and front bumper hanging off. Whilst budget is limited, I would be looking for something in decent condition to take a bit of pride in.

Based on your search area, what about either:

Civic

or Golf

Like what? Anybody who takes an Auto only will have a good reason.

Even if it's because they just can't get the hang of a clutch (cough...), whether it's bad co-ordination, foot problems etc and they desperately need to get from A to B, it would have to be a good reason to them surely.

Sorry, just wondered what makes one a 'numpty'

It'll be subjective as to what makes a numpty, I suppose it's debatable if an individual can't get a hang of the clutch ;)

Everyone I've known who's taken an auto test, the reason is they just couldn't get used to a clutch. That's taking the easy way out in my opinion as far as my friends are concerned!
