Anyone know what's happening with the Shield K1?

I'm after one of these for the 11year old, as they seem the best bang for buck to play games on.. But everywhere is out of stock

Been on the phone to the shop here, and other shops, and no one seems to know when they will be back in stock.

Most places are quoting May!

Anyone know why there is such a shortage, or have I just missed the fact of how popular these are

The Shield X1 is on the way. I expect it to drop around March-April given the way things are going. I did recently purchase one and return it inside a week due to hilarious battery issues, but it was otherwise a very good device. Expect most places to fight over it but I suspect OCUK will get some in stock for sure.

Instead I purchased a Samsung Tab S 8.4 with amoled goodness to replace it. Quite a hard bit of kit to find now and more suited for non-gaming tbh.

Didn't realise stock was an issue with these.

Try Nvidia's website as its shipping from the 4th, or check the official retailers, as one is listing them as in stock for next day delivery

The X1 will probably be quite a bit mor expensive though, so if your looking for a budget tablet, it's probably not something to wait for. I don't think Nvidia will lower the price of the K1 any further either.

Battery drain is much better with the latest software update from about 1 week ago. but it's worth reading up on it, as battery life isn't it's strongest point.

So what's the realistic battery life of the K1?

I tried twice the other night to order direct from Nvidia, but even though the payment details went through it would not show any button to confirm the order, the web page just sat there showing me the basket

Depends on usage but I tend to get around 5 to 7 hours screen on time. I turn it off between uses though, and don't really us it for gaming, more for watching movies on kodi and shoebox, and browsing the web.

You tried the official retainers? One definitely showed as having 40 in stock earlier because I checked.

Thank you! From Nvidia's webpage it was the only retailer I hadn't tried, just placed an order, should be here next week. Young un will be happy

Just be aware that you don't get any charging cables or adaptors with the device.
