Quentin Tarantino, yay or nay?

Clapton says he learnt to withdraw into music, that it was the only thing that was "real" for him. And "real" is what it had to be – emerging on to the British blues scene in the early 1960s as a gifted young guitarist, he became a sort of blues fundamentalist, refusing to soil his hands with commercial pop, which was why, having joined the Yardbirds, he walked out on them just as they were having their first hit.

And then he went back to Pop starting with Cream.

You should have stuck with Zappa to be honest.
With a new Clapton album you knew what you was going to get but with Zappa it was a lucky dip.
There was a guy who did exactly what he wanted to do.

Clapton On Cream

It’s an interesting question because I don’t really know. I’m not even sure what we really set out to do. My impression at the time was that we were scraping by. It was always, “What are we going to do now?” So we just jammed. The initial agenda was that Cream was going to be a dada group. We were going to have all these weird things happening on stage and it was going to be experimental and funny and rebellious. We said at the time it was going to be anti-music.

As said ...anyone can criticise anything. I made this point a while back...

If people want to discuss it that's fine...I talk about film...doesn't mean it carries any significance to anyone who chooses to discard it.

Will it change or influence what QT creates?

Not one jot.

Maybe that's the issue we're labouring with here. I'm not expecting my criticism to affect how Tarantino makes films. I don't think anyone is. I imagine there's a very short list of people he's actually prepared to listen to. That's not generally why people discuss art, though, is it?

thought knockin on heavens door was wrote by dylan?

while i agree not everything tarantino has done has been great he is the only director whose work i genuinely look forward to.

Again, why is it even important that a film review, good or bad, agrees with our individual opinions? Ultimately a handful of overly-aggressive reviews does nothing to deter the general movie-going audience from attending a film. Kick-Ass was hailed by the fanboy community while bringing in an impressive world wide box office gross of $96 million, even though Ebert hated it; Toy Story 3 is a huge blockbuster success even though Smithey railed on it and Jonah Hex appropriately failed even though White adorned it with kudos.

So what does this all mean in the grand scheme of things? Nothing, really; the true purpose of a review is to give the reader a look at how they may or may not enjoy a film based on someone else’s experience who shares their viewpoints.

Bottom line: If a critic doesn’t share your opinion on a film, don’t take that opportunity to rip into them; just find yourself a critic you do agree with and in the end you’ll enjoy your movie experience a whole lot more.

All seems a bit pointless to me. :p

I didn't like The Force Awakens...This upset people. In fact some people said that my view of the film was ruining their enjoyment of it can you believe?!

The solution is to discard my view and find a view you do like and wallow in that view.

Like I have been saying all along. Its all pointless...Negotiate the reading and discard at will.

Claude Monet

People discuss my art and pretend to understand as if it were necessary to understand, when it's simply necessary to love.

Others create Art and discard Criticism outright.

Then you're welcome to leave the discussion, if you think it's a waste of time, or you can stay and rally around Tarantino. No one is forcing you either way. Everyone seems to like discussing his films, though, and what they perceive as their relative merits. If the conclusion of your quote above is to find a critic whose opinions generally resonate with your own in order to guide your film watching, then maybe it's not outside the bounds of possibility that people like to take the temperature of this community to get an idea of what films they might enjoy. After all, I know I've watched films after someone mentioned them in the ...last night thread, and others have said they've watched films after I've posted about them, so clearly there is an end result to all these discussions.

Maybe we should just ban discussion of Tarantino films in the ...last night thread.

Its a double edged sword. Just because someone posts The Martian in the last night thread and gives it 9/10 doesn't mean its a good movie.

But there are on occasion some good stuff coming from that thread.

But the only clear sure way is to decide yourself.

A lot of people don't know what makes a good movie. Everest for example clearly displays this.

I use the thread to seek films I may have missed. But ultimately I take peoples opinions with a pinch of salt. Just like any review.

What I do find odd is people getting annoyed that I don't like something even though I give clear and concise reasoning what I don't like.I find that Bizarre.

At the end of the day its all subjective anyway.:p

What's your point? they still turned into a Pop band with lots of hits.

Yay. In a time where everyone else is making toned down 15 cert films to make maximum profits its refreshing to see someone just make the films he wants to make.

I'm not as keen on his latest films though. I like the modern setting of Res dogs and Pulp Fiction more.
