Think I might get the teac so I can use the usb input for pc and coax input for blu ray player and then connect it to the vali2 with rca cables (I think). The geek out sounds like a really good product but it only has the one input.

The AVR would work as a DAC and the pre outs would go to a vali2 or whatever amp but your AVR is too far away to consider this and depends on how you output sound from the motherboard

If I'm outputting from the pc graphics card over hdmi to the avr which does the converting then to the amp does it matter how far away the pc is from the avr?I thought with digital signals you either get the whole lot or not at all. It works with the avr + speakers with a 3metre hdmi cable at the moment.

EDIT

Sorry I might have got confused darreny.

With my set up - AVR + amp = good.

AVR + DAC + amp = bad.
PC + DAC + amp = good.

Line level cables aren't usually that long so the Vali would need to be near the AVR which would leave yiu with a long headphone cable run in which case you might as well use the Denon headphone output. Never used a g card output, does it do sound only or would you need to go hdmi out to AVR then hdmi from AVR to monitor for picture?

Yeah that's about it

I've got the vali2 and I'm having trouble with inserting the tube. It says in the instructions to push down firmly to ensure it is well seated. I've inserted it with the pins part of the way down and I can apply quite a lot of force down on it without it going any further.
I'm not sure how far it should go down. To the base of the pins? I've watched videos of people swapping tubes and they seemed to do quite a lot of wiggling to get them on/off.
If I've inserted it incorrectly and I turn on the power could it damage it?
