No dx12 fable legends game cancelled

Que the conspiracy theories that Nvidia made Lionhead go bankrupt so that there wouldn't be a DX12 release.

On a serious note that is very sad, I liked the look of Fable

Cant believed it, absolutely shocked news. Fable Legends was just months away from release and Microsoft decided to cancelled it probably because it wont be enough to make people very excited to play it for free.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-03-07-fable-developer-lionhead-studios-to-shut-down

I was surprised found out I had Fable Legends closed beta key when I logged in my Fable Legends account last month but I never received email notification about it. Been played Fable Legends 2 weeks ago, enjoyed it, stunning DirectX 12 graphics, will play again sometime this week to get through to the end of game before Fable Legends server shutdown on 13 April 2016.

Sad.

Nonetheless, Lemke reiterated Microsoft's continuing support for studios in the UK and Europe

Ok... but?

and furthermore that it is “in discussions with employees” about closing down Lionhead. That's not the end to the bad news, either. Press Play Studios, which had been working on the Xbox One-exclusive Project Knoxville, will also be shut down.

How is that continued support?

This game was almost finished so i would not be surprised to see another Studio come in and buy the game for some cheapness. Happened with APB when Realtime Worlds closed. Would be a shame to let all that hard work go to waste.

just found out, wow ... that was one of the main DX12 titles that was on the way

so much for investing more in PC gaming micro$oft

does that mean no more fable games ever ? one of the first RPGs that I played

What the hell is been wrong with Microsoft lately? There turning into a second rate pansies.
I wouldn't really say it's lately. Microsoft haven't done much of value in the gaming scene since the early years of the Xbox 360, when they were funding a wide variety of projects to help it establish itself. In recent years (since around 2010 in fact) they've done little except shovel out Halo/Gears/Forza sequels and buy Minecraft, with a bunch of Kinect garbage and a few lower budget titles sprinked in. They seem to have given up on funding anything larger that isn't a safe bet.

DX12 is jinxed. After nearly a year we still don't have more than one playable example of a DX12 game. To cancel a game just before release is ridiculous.

Microsoft deserves to fail in the console market if they keep destroying games like this. It's the only way they will leave the gaming market. The killed the fantastic Age of Empires series and now Fable.

I know we all don't like Microsoft as far as gaming goes at the moment, but there must have been something very very wrong for them to just shut things down like this. We could speculate as to what this was all day. they wouldn't have shut things down just for the sake of it.

sad, i liked fable series, but fable legend must have sucked so much to be canceled this late.
i get it on PC, the combination of f2p multiplayer(sandbox) and windows store exclusif, would have killed the game anyway, community too small, micro-transaction not viable.
but killing it on xbone too, means the game really sucked, and the projected pay off, wasn't worth more investment.
lionhead going out, that makes even less exclusives for xbone, that console is a mess, if we are lucky this will be the last one microsoft makes, for pc gaming's sake

Agreed Bru. As bad as it is, there would have been a monetary reason for canning it and canning Lionhead (as well as another Danish segment). Disappointing for fans of the genre and workers of course and I hope the workers get sorted quickly and fans of the series will see it at some stage.

Meh, Lionhead have been around for ages and made so few actual games. Amongst them the sequels tend to rip off or make most of the best aspects of the originals worse. The last Fable was awful, the previous Fables ripped off the story of the earlier one so were to my mind basically remastered versions of the first one.

Black and White was a great concept but really didn't work. Lionhead has spent years making pretty average games out of great ideas, probably at big expense and not great profits as Molyneux seems to be another one of those think big, attempt to do too much and spend years making something way too complex only to eventually release something much smaller, simpler and lacking.

Spore, Duke Nuken Forever, everything Molyneux all tend to follow the try to much, end up releasing something simple and not great pattern.

I can imagine the game got cancelled because they either tried to release Fable 1/2 again with DX12 graphics, or because they tried to do something new, far reaching, ultra complex and ended up with a Duke Nukem style mess MS don't want to clean up.

I wouldn't say it's the end of the game though, for MS it could be a lot cheaper to close Lionhead, get rid of everyone then hand off the game to a cheaper team to salvage what they can out of it.

EDIT:- I wrote this without having known an awful lot about Fable Legends, having read more, it screams out that it's another one of those 'tried too much, failed... have no idea how to make a releasable game from this..." feel about it. Their update video saying it will take longer because they've "essentially made two games together" and it's "bigger than they anticipated". Some devs just have ideas but no sense of how to deliver a game based off those ideas. They want to make the most complex game ever made and basically fail every single time. Every one of these massively over reaching games fails and yet the same guys keep doing it over and over again.
