Do charity chuggers have to be so aggressive and sarcastic?

They are a right nuisance. I had one offer to walk me to the bank so I could find out my bank details, bit dodgy

Also hate how supermarkets let charities in to bag your shopping, so awkward when you don't let them do it.

If you want to give to charity, you give it direct to those who need it, not someone where most of the cash goes to running the charity and paying executives massive salaries.

^^ A lot of them also pay those collecting a fair chunk too. Partly why I never donate to those collecting in shops or on the street, you never know the cut they're able to take.

Would be happy to take some information from them regarding their charity but I don't like how they try and get people to sign up for direct debits there and then.

This has been happening a lot to me lately, especially on my door step. Not interested in a one off donation, just a direct debit. Not happening.

It also bloody annoys me the people that use company email to continually beg for sponsorship and also on facebook. People on facebook seem to think they are the only people asking, despite my wall being half filled with someone doing something for other for charity.

Swift, light punch to the centre of the face. Quick as you can, barely move apart from your arm, carry on walking as if nothing happened.

I tend to just ignore people.

I give a somewhat reasonable amount (around £150ish a year) to a charity that I care about. Everyone else can just go do one, if you ask me.

Have gone to university in Cardiff in the mid-90's I had to perfect the ability to walk past ignoring these people ... (if I want to give to charity I will ... if you nag me, or try and shame me into it, then you are getting nothing).

But I did find it amusing last summer sitting in a coffee shop having a drink and a snack and listening to some girl getting interviewed at the next table to be a chugger ... the amount she was being told they would get for X amounts of regular donation sign ups was surprisingly large really ...

I live on what is undoubtedly a low income housing estate, yet we get door to door chuggers every other day yet where my other half lives which is certainly not a low income area she gets none at all - yet she would be happy to see one from time to time, she's lived there for 5years and not seen one - you'd think they'd target areas where people would have the spare cash, yet they don't.

As for shop chuggers, I ignore them.

Agree with OP. It's this kind of thing that puts me off giving to large charities altogether. I just don't like the fact a charity is run like a business, with aggressive sales tactics and such. It seems wrong.

Street sellers, I usually just walk past and tell them I'm not interested.

Door to door, I usually just tell them I use Give As You Earn and won't contemplate donating any other way. It's more efficient than DD and Gift Aid - it saves the charity admin costs and delivers a higher revenue if you're a higher rate taxpayer. Can't really dodge a full conversation, so that usually shuts them up instead.

Not to impressed the CO-OP are allowing this in their stores to be honest, I imagine for some people these charity chuggers come across as quite intimidating. One of them was back talking customers that just wanted to leave :/

Complain about them to the Co-op then. While stores are usually happy to allow charity types to beg around their stores they will usually act if they become too aggressive.
