which 380X on this week only?!

Don't worry about the power requirements mentioned in the third video (far higher than actually necessary). Just make sure your psu is a decent one.

No worries. :)

I've watched the reviews and they all seem to be pretty good. The Sapphire and the Powercolor caught my eye the most (it would have been nice if the XFX had a backplate).

Yep, you're right; your psu is a good one so no problems there. :)

yea, the nitro in particular caught my eye too. as did the XFX but the lack of back plate kind of put me off.

anyways nitro purchased - should be a slight upgrade on my vapour-x 5770!

i have the 390 Nitro and its a good GPU, quite and fans dont spin till a certain temp.

the back plate is a nice touch too, was going to get the 380x but on the black friday deals it was not much more for the 390 so went for this

Nice work, arc@css. :)

None....save up and get a 390

was going to get a 390 but would be totally overkill for my needs. 8gb would be totally wasted on 1080p - I've no real intentions on pushing any higher res as I just don't have the gaming time to make it worthwhile.

Hate to say it,

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...ics-card-gv-r938xg1-gaming-4gd-gx-181-gi.html

3yr warranty and £179.99 and has one of their windoforce funky cooling solutions so ought to be quiet.

Start paying to much more and you may as well grab a 390 as mentioned above.

behave yourself Stulid, don't be making me regret my purchase already! :p the nitro was only a tenner more so I'm happy enough - had looked at that card actually, but always been very happy with sapphire's range of cards and cooling performance and that video arc linked and a couple others I found afterwards swung it - plus it's called Nitro, that alone is worth the extra 10 quid! :p

edit: dammit didn't notice the extra years warranty! damn you stulid, damn you to hell! lol

OMG just noticed something else..it only uses a single 8pin PCI-E plug, the rest are all like 2x6pin.

The gigabyte page on their site says 1x8pin.

But i have just looked and I wouldn't read too much into it as a lot of the google hits suggest 150w for an 8pin and 75watts for a 6pin (2x6pin = 150watts then... so comparable)

yea just looked at that too. the 1 x 8 pin would have actually swung it ahead of the price and extra year guarantee, would have meant I could have kept one of the pci connectors on my non modular psu hidden out the way! hey ho, my entire system will be getting rebuilt in 2-3 months time anyway, my poor old i5 750 is long overdue an upgrade

Just thought I'd give an update to those that may (or most likely not) be interested. GPU arrived today all installed and seems to running fine - oh my oh my, things look so much better. Ran 3dmark11 advanced and temps never went over 70c, never heard the fans once!!

Only weird issue - the gigabyte splash screen on loading is completely 'artifacted' though a Google seems to suggest that it's just a weird anomaly between R9 cards and older gigabyte mobos so have just disabled the splash screen.

Bit more testing to do but so far I'm well impressed!! :D:D:D
