Just wondering.
As one the other week not only forgot part of the order so had to come back.
But then said something along the lines of just waiting around seeing if you'll give me a tip.

Two issues with that
1) you didn't give good service
2) and more importantly cash, wtf is cash. If I order takeaway there's a reason I'm paying by card.

And the slow move to less and less cash being used, is such jobs must be taking a hitting. Low paid topped up with tips. Although in uk minimum wage kind of bypasses that.

Nope - I never know when and where tipping is/isn't appropriate, etc. anyhow wish we had a clearer stance on it in this country.

Only time I'd even consider tipping a delivery driver is when our regular royal mail guy came back in the evening after I missed him when he tried to deliver earlier in the day as he happened to be passing the area on the way back from the end of his days drops.

I'm the complete opposite though in regards to cash - I don't understand why people wouldn't have a small amount of it in case of emergencies, etc. :S (EDIT: It is one that comes up at work from time to time as nearly everyone is surprised when they find I always carry a wallet with a bit of change and a few notes! I didn't think it was really that unusual).

If the order comes to close to the amount I'm paying (£14 and I have £15 in notes, £19 from a £20, etc) I'll say it's alright and for them to keep the rest. If I'm paying £11 or £16 I wait for all my change then close the door.

I order over the phone rather than online as even though they shouldn't be, takeaways are always more expensive via JustEat or similar.

Ah yeah I do that as well - I don't intentionally tip though.

I'll usually round up to the nearest 5, for my own convenience of not having to wait for the driver to mess about with change, counting it etc. Though I usually aim to spend near to the nearest 5 anyway.

Nope. I paid in cash once and the driver said he had no change! He eventually gave me £5 in the random smash he carried on him. I couldn't believe it, ever sense then I have paid on card accepted the delivery and closed the door.

At uni I had a good relationship with the security service who would accept pizza being delivered to the building with the labs on the condition they got a slice. Worked for me.

oldest trick in the delivery drivers book, take ages fumbling around with small change whilst umming and arrring and looking a bit thick and pretending you cant count :D

Delivery drivers love the winter. More food delivered and the colder weather means you cant be arsed to stand at the door waiting for your change.

Yes I do as they earn **** money & are bringing me Hot fodder, Not much but ten bob don't hurt on the price of the food & it'll mean a lot to the lad when it adds up through the night.

Back in the day before I used just eat or whatever I used to let them have the change but now I pre pay on order by card, so no.

Same here

hahahahhahahha

drivers get paid per delivery, usually around £1 per delivery sometimes £1.50.

they may also get £5-£10 per night to cover fuel depending on the place.

but work it out for yourself just how many deliveries they need to do to get minimum wage after all their costs and wear and tear.

it doesn't matter though as it's all cash in hand. you won't see many if any delivery drivers declare their income from it. they usually do it for a bit of extra cash and a free meal at the end of the night. either as a second job or on the dole. it's not their main income stream.

i ran a place for 5-6 years and we had quite a few of them, extremely high turnover of staff.

anyway i digress. i usually just go and collect. when you order a delivery you can wait up to an hour or hour and a half but that's because the majority of that time it's sitting there waiting. i'd rather go collect and get it fresher, i therefore don't tip or pay a delivery charge.

basically if they don't receive a tip, i'm guessing that delivery has just been a waste of their time.

takeaways should just charge £3 delivery and give that to the driver. but i'm guessing orders would decrease so they don't so the driver is the one being shafted.
