Tories giving the disabled another kicking

To add some actual info, here is the current test.

http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/pip/indexxx.php

The change proposed is to change the rating for 'needs to use an aid or appliance to xxxx' from 2 points to 1 point, on the basis that these aids or appliances are supplied at low or no cost and do not significantly increase living costs.

I suppose consent is as well - if someone can physically overpower someone then I'd say they've earned the right to pork them.

Maybe the "everyone for themselves, that's what happens in nature" idea actually has some lines that need drawing and you're just disagreeing with where those lines are, as opposed to holding up the animal kingdom as something to aspire to.

Labour are completely unelectable, and we don't have PR. So I wouldn't be surprised to see the Tories in for years to come.

You ain't seen nothin' yet :p

The Bible clearly distinguishes between man and beast  even thou some humans that get bored in their four walls of materialism, might want to be classed in kingdom animalia and have a x1000 great grandmother that is an ape and will foam at the mouth and ape out (making an alleged self fulfilling prophecy) if someone challenges that their great grandmother isn't a filthy ape (poor grandmother)

That's nothing like the same!

Theres a huge difference between fighting for your own immediate territory from an incursion or immediate threat, and 'going to war' as we have done as a species as a prolonged event for political or ideological reasons.

I had to do a dissertation on this, so look up the general question, it's not as straight forward as you might think

I know I said I was going to stop but this is worth replying to...

My example of chimps isn't far off that definition. Obviously they can only battle those close to them not the other side of the world but they certainly attack for territory and battle with the same troop(s) over years, slowly wearing the other group down and purposely killing opposing troop members (no through self defence).

Obviously it's not that straight forward, and not directly compatible, like all of these sorts of things, but it does show most of our actions are not unique to our species and can help show the evolutionary trend towards what we see humans do now.

It's an interesting subject. :)

If you've had any of the work published then I'd be interested in reading it (or can recommend some papers to read).

Yes this change is hardly massive I realise that and doesn't even affect me, but whats gets me is the gradual erosion of the eligibility.

Now it's this, in a few months it will be something else, then something else. It will go on until they hit a target regardless of how many people really need the help.

No, instead we were all created by some mythical being that no one can provide any evidence of, who appears to have spent a significant portion of those first 7 days making things to make it look like evolution is real. Perhaps he should have spent that time moulding our minds to stop us being so violent and animalistic... :p

This is the problem with any system where eligibility has to be assessed, especially in areas where historically there has been a perception of excessive leniency (deserved or otherwise).

This problem isn't exclusive to the management of the disabilities within the benefits system, but any attempt to change it always results in howls from one quarter or another.

No it's a fair question, but the fact is I'm happy with I get, but the cut from enhanced rates to standard rates in DLA/PIP is not merely a few pounds. It can be around £50 a week (£200pm) which would hurt my finances badly.

I'm happy with what I get but I don't feel I take too much. You will note from my comment about getting enough that I am actually against rises and cuts in the level of disability paid. I think atm it's at a Goldilocks level. I feel asking for more disability money is actually tantamount to greed. It's not needed, but cuts aren't either.

Also, dont forget, my disability hasn't always prevented me from working. I worked in the civil service (in Whitehall central government ironically) and paid in more than my fair share over the years. I'm only asking for a reasonable amount of help until I receive a transplant then I will be straight back out looking for work as I enjoy working and the pride that comes with not having to rely on handouts. Please dont think of me as a moaning layabout scrounger as I am nothing of the sort, and the fact that Mad Rapper seems to think I am beneath him in some way enrages me.

Odd isn't it, how these cuts have started coming out since the whole "Brexit" have gone, more proof that the vulnerable will suffer and loose their rights if the UK does vote to leave the EU, meaning we will be in the 1930s/1940s all over again.............

Yes, genuine cases need support but we cannot keep supporting this current system - it's a joke. Do not get me started on mobility cars...the current drug dealer is driving around in a nice VW touran mobility car. He trains in the same gym as me and injects a lot of steroids. It's a joke.

Ah yes, get a brand new car every other year like the person I knew whether you actually it or not. Almost makes me want to shoot myself in the foot just to get the benefits I'd be a lot better off I'm sure.

We do seem to have a disproportionately high benefits bill in the UK. Nearly all countries spend a lot less than we do.

Here we go again, getting started on the motability cars.

Is it so hard to understand, if you have major difficulty walking and getting around, you are paid £57 a week to help with mobility costs. You can use that money to get a car to help you get around. No extra costs are incurred upon the government than £57 a week which the disabled person gets anyway, car or not. Any excess costs are covered by the Motability organisation which runs as a charity with no government funding at all. If you're too stupid to realise these facts then I dont know what more I can say.
