Tony Blair says Britain's unemployed are WRONG to complain migrants are taking their jobs and says t

Whilst Blair does talk a lot of crap, I agree with his core argument here. Young people should be aspiring to more than unskilled jobs. If you have a good work ethic, then there are opportunities - depending where you are in the country.

Isn't the issue then qualification inflation? For example requiring an (expensive) degree to be a policeman?

reading what he says really angers me, if your over 19 there is no free education, its become very expensive, try finding A levels for over 19 its hard then add university fees etc...
This guy speaks from his back side.

there is plenty of free education out there, in fact there is more than ever in the form of online courses

added to that you can easily get student loans for open university study so no up front costs there either

Complaining that someone who has worked harder than you and put in more effort than you then gets a job instead of you is pathetic.

Its being considered,

It was an example of qualification inflation, Same example can be made of nurses if you wish.

That was the problem when you could go to University and study something no-one would ever carry forward into a career.
But its not just a degree in basket weaving thats required. They are explicit in the degree you take but its simply jobs that have never required such levels. The point being that the attainable jobs are being restricted further and further up the chain and leads to wage depression in those lower end jobs that do exist, meaning even if you work, you will still take social help.

and just to go back to Burnsies point
If you have a good work ethic, then there are opportunities

many less than there are people though, so you end up inflating the jobless no matter how qualified or eager.

depending where you are in the country.

So the south east? there's an unhealthy imbalance already which effects the south east as much as anyone, why make it worse?

Blair betrayed the working classes and now he's trying to blame them for the drop in income they experienced. Not everyone is cut out to be a doctor, nurse, software engineer etc - you need to provide opportunities for people to become painter and decorators, labourers etc. Telling these people they should have got a better job is insulting and ridiculous.

Worked in many low end jobs. Employers certainly don't prefer migrants, but most English people are useless and up themself thinking their better than the job. When they clearly aren't. Most English people lasted 1 shift. Where even a tiny polish girl doing a manual handling job survived.
A Lot of these people who complain have no one but themself to blame.

And low end jobs do have opportunities if your a decent worker.

Blair opened us up to unlimited immigration. He had no mandate to do so and now he's shafted millions of young people for whom minimum wage is now maximum wage. And he has the cheek to call them lazy. The man should be in prison.

Now if he'd established a comprehensive package to ensure even the least advantaged people had marketable skills, then perhaps he could be justified in calling people lazy for not helping themselves up, but he did none of that. He's another hypocritical vile leech of a former politician, troughing on the unearned millions he's made from property and flogging his brand to people stupid enough to put him on their board or on a lectern.

The Daily Mail is currently serialising Tom Bower's new hit-piece on Tony Blair. I wonder why they've decided to print a sensationalised story about Blair now?

The reason migrants come is because there are jobs for them to go into. British people seem to think they're above these jobs.

No. Migrants come here because a minimum wage job here, combined with in work benefits, is the equivalent of a very decent salary in Eastern Europe. It's not a level playing field.

Really. As I type there's a group of builders outside my home laying a road. Had a quick chat with them and all but one of them were British (including a couple of Sikh's which I haven't seen before). They obviously don't think this sort of work is beneath them.
