Absolute nonsense Derren has always used stooges/actors/lies/whatever you want to call it. Derren Brown uses neurolinguistic programming to bull **** the audience into believing his lies, all his targets/hypnosis/crap is fake lmao, its never about his "show", it's about how gullible British TV audiences are. There is absolutely no such thing as hypnosis, he basically programs his audience into trusting him then he can say what ever the **** he wants, like "look what happens when I click my fingers" and the audience will believe it.

This has been exposed with the lottery prediction scam. The whole point of this charade was bull ****ing the TV audience. Like 30 people or whatever somehow manage to magically guess the numbers of the lottery, you must be absolutely gullible if you thought that was possible.

He's an entertainer, that's pretty much it tbh

The lottery thing I didn't see, but that was an obvious con from the start surely.

I believed the recent show called 'The Push' as well.

The focus of the show was where the guy didn't actually 'commit murder', only at the end did they show them repeating the experiment 3 other times where people did push the guy off the roof.

He's very specific about the people he uses, who are hyper suggestible.

Didn't work for me... I was already scrolled to the bottom by the time I read the post :P

I went to hypnotherapy to quit smoking. 2 hours, 1 session. An hour talking, an hour laying on the sofa, can't remember a word she said but I remember being there... Weird.

Not touched a cigarette since.

Stage stuff is just a show, not much else that needs to be said.

Hypnotherapy is just a new age placebo with a touch of science. I know people who have given up all sorts because of it. They all had one thing in common, they all believed it was going to work and they were motivated to the point where they made it work. I don't believe there is anything spectacular in it and when it works, it is nothing more than motivating someone to perform something by suggesting it to them. Where do you draw the line with hypnotism? Does having a relaxing chat count or do they have to go full zombie (which obviously is stupid)?

There is some cool stuff in neuro sleep science but that is so far from stage hypnosis that you could closer compare real medicine and homoeopathy.

he doesn't use NLP, most of the time the 'mind control' stuff is just used for misdirection

I was sceptical about hypnosis until my brother told me he'd been dragged up on stage at a show while at uni.

He described it as being fully aware of what he was doing and that what he was being asked to do was ridiculous, but didn't care and felt a compulsion to do what he was asked, or a lack of giving a damn about how ridiculous it was.

Same here, I was also sceptical until I was sitting in a holiday camp club while the hypnotist went through his pre-show routine and when he'd finished my wife couldn't get her hands apart. I know my wife, she was absolutely horrified she might end up on stage but still those hands wouldn't come apart.
Up on stage she was a useless subject and she ended up coming back to me but halfway through the performance my Sister In Law went to sleep and we couldn't wake her.
We shouted the Hypnotist down and he said he would deal with her after the show.

After that I saw shows where I knew virtually every person in the audience and when you see people doing stuff that you know they wouldn't do then it becomes believable.
I can't go under, I've always volunteered but my mind is too active.

So yes, I believe that some people can go under but I also KNOW that some people act through the performance.

well yeah the path of least resistance is to simply play along, it would take more balls/confidence to partly 'ruin' the show by standing up part way through and saying 'this isn't working'. Most people, if they're initially responding to the hypnotist, will carry on being compliant. Some stage hypnotists will take it further with comments about hypnotism being less effective on stupid people etc... to increase the social pressure.
