Ford Capri are coming back?

The Capri was a little before my time as a petrolhead. Would it be accurate to say that it was pretty much the UK equivalent to a Mustang?

That IS what it was originally designed to be. Only on a smaller scale.

A bit like the original Opel Manta was like a mini Stingray - with passenger seats !!

yes definitely (as stated by Ford at the time), the Capri 3.0 was a very quick car for its era, it just goes to show how times have changed...

because any car (normal affordable production car) that did 0-60 in 9 seconds or less was considered very fast back then  this all changed when the Golf GTI first came out and then the XR3i etc, because these cars were a total revolution they changed everything.

Don't think the Capri will ever come back :( it's been getting mentioned for years with them same designs but nothing's ever come of it. There's not much point now anyway as it was sort of the UK's poor answer to a Mustang and now we have that.
Probably for the best as it would only end up getting released in an exotic range of Diesel engines anyway thanks to nobody having any taste in good petrol engines in the UK anymore.

and need half a dozen bags of cement in the boot to keep it on the road; I'm not interested.

You can't drive if you needed to do that, I had a 2.8i as a learner driver and it was fine in all weathers, if anything it understeered when pushed. That said I used decent modern tyres.

This thing looks decent in my eyes (even though it's fake), however it isn't a Capri, it looks like it should be a Puma MK2.

The Capri has no place in the market today in my opinion as we have the Mustang now.

They were absolutely tiny cars by modern standards-

Wow can't believe how small it looks next to your Mondeo  my dad had one in that colour when I was a kid and I remember it feeling quite big back in the day.

it cant come back because of the Mustang, the Mustang was a better car back then too, there's no room in their line up for another Capri.

unless they change the name of our Mustang, to a Capri, which would be really dumb

mind you, that's what they did back then, they redesigned the Mustang for us, but what's really needed is the Shelby Mustang over here, with a blower (along with the Dodge Challenger) i'm sure Gibbo would agree :D

Pfft. MkII with the cast iron block 3L lump was the fun version. The later ones were made safer so that Lewis Collins and hairdressers could drive them.

but it did have a long bonnet, the Capri was small inside compared to the mk3 Cortina/ Granada, so it was never really a big car back then, it was about average.

As Ford has Fiesta, Focus and Mustang, I am unsure where this fits in to be honest.

It doesn't.

Besides, the Capri was supposed to be the UK version of the Mustang so as we now have the real thing we should petition Ford to release instead the F150/F250 in RHD so I can replace my 4x4 with something truly huge :D

yes you had the 3000E and the 3000GT, these sounded really nice too, but not as tough sounding as the Rover V8, that sounded excellent, it's just a shame that the later Rovers were so damned ugly.

Confirmed, or just another rumour? This is about the 3rd "Ford are brining back the Capri" rumour I've seen.

nothing mentioned by Ford, only a new Mustang, plus the Ford GT classic and a new focus/fiesta, but that's on a Yank website.

i think there's a Fiesta RS, but who knows for sure

I remember some very lairy times with a 2.8i Special back in the day - and like to think I can drive!! - as already said, the Capri has been replaced these days by the Mustang.

That thing in the OP looks bloody awful too. :p

what about VW scirocco ? when it came back, everybody hate it and thought it look like a flat golf. but now its popular.

i think it'll be same with capri. people will buy it

Speculative nonsense with no source and poorly adapted renderings of a very dated Ford concept car. This is just misleading! Personal opinion of course.

If they did make one I think it would borrow some design cues from the mustang and maybe GT, not an expired design language.
