Leon Cupra 225

That Leon looks soo dated now. It's aged terribly. And as for the MPs links there surely going to be dogs with 100k miles on they are high maintenance at the best of times. A good MPS would cost 5k plus as I looked at them myself.
Op I got a ST225 1 owner with 70k on for 5k 4 months ago. That's the sensible option in the hot hatches for that budget IMO.

I disagree, still think the Cupra R looks really good. The none R versions look dated however.

Op any update on this? I've been looking for a change recently and want to scratch the itch I have on these.

I never went through with it. I phoned up to book a viewing and was told it was sold (though ironically it now seems to be back up for sale).

However, it seems my circumstances could be changing and I might be coming into some money allowing me to up my budget to the 8k region. With this in mind I'm sticking with my MX-5 for a little while later and I'm probably going to move to a 2005ish Impreza WRX.

What itch do you want to scratch exactly? As someone who owned both a 6-pot e46 (albeit a 330d rather than 330i) and a tweaked LCR, I can't actually put much between them. They both offer similar performance, one in more comfort, yet with more precision, and one that feels more raw, yet numb in steering feel (but has epic brakes).

Great post. I'm just wanting more power really, and as I've been reading up about them they seem a great platform to extract power. Would like something a bit more raw and with a turbo.

It'll certainly give you a more raw feeling (less sound deadening, louder exhaust and induction noises), but as I said, won't feel as precise a machine to drive spiritedly. They can be easily modded for more and more power. 260-270 is fine on stock hardware with the exception of the recirc valve, although if you find one that's not been upgraded from the stock plastic pile then I'll be surprised!

Now don't get me wrong, I loved mine to bits, and as said at the start of the thread, I'd have another in a heart beat, however if one of these and an e46 M3 came up at the same time whilst I was looking, I'd be very much torn.

Torn between a Leon Cupra R and an E46 M3. Said no-one ever.

Thought I'd update this with my experience of viewing one today.

Went to see one which I thought would be in good condition. Seemed good in the pics and the seller seemed genuine. Got there and caught him washing the car. Not bad I thought he's trying to make it presentable.

Car was remapped to apparently 280bhp - felt more like 250/260. Had a full miltek system but running original airbox and intercooler. Brake discs had been changed to drilled grooved type. I let him drive to see how his driving habits were, got the quarter mark of water temperature cue him booting it.

Now I had my mate with me who spoke to him and I checked every inch of the car over. Door seals needed replacing, front fan resistors needed changing. Checked oil, oil on dipstick fine, coolant fine, oil filler cap filled to Brim with mayo and on the inside. Looked down the hole to see if I could see the oil, seemed like it had a bit of water down there.

Car had a dodgy tick over but fans blew nice and hot. Didn't risk it and departed as he settled on 3.3k for it from 4k lol.

Asked him how far away his work was and he said it took 10 minutes to get there so I did think maybe it's condensation in filler cap due to short driving.

Asked him if had ever checked oil or filled it with oil and said nope let the garage do it. Couldn't be bothered after that so said no thanks and sorry for waisting 3 hours of his time lol.

Sitting back in the bmw felt like heaven. The leon whilst a great car it may be just didn't have that wow thing for me.

I have no idea why anyone would have considered a Seat Leon an upgrade from a 330i anyway. It is an inferior car in every way. It was inferior when they were new let alone now they are all old!

Wasn't a planned upgrade. More of a downgrade but it's made me realise how much I actually do like my 330i. I think I just needed to see what they were like.

Plus there was black oil like soot in the leons exhaust. And the oil smelt sweet.

3 hours? When you knew you weren't going to buy it?

Who's the bigger messer?!

I was going to buy it. I was actually tempted to take the risk but the mayo came back after the run. I have had bad luck in the past with cars of this sort. So I'm extra cautious.

You were tempted even after its condition and the way he obviously treated it?!

Right at the point he gave it the beans when it wasn't warmed up I'd be like "yeah thanks but no thanks".
