Bought a phone off eBay 6 months ago and now been blocked.

Another reminder to never ever ever buy phones on eBay. I got stung once... Never again.
Best of luck getting it sorted OP.

lot of clueless people in here.

stating it can be unblocked but is illegal, etc. why suggest it then? 2 wrongs do not make a right. by changing the imei he will likely get someone else's phone blocked unless he buys the same phone but it's dead then uses it's IMEI.

his phone won't work in any country abroad. there is an agreement in place with other countries too. so it will work in dodgy countries but not places like germany, etc.

i stated in the last ebay phone thread you have to be an idiot to buy or sell a phone over £100 on ebay. it's just not worth it.

take it as a life lesson. buy yourself a moto g only £100 and does everything a £600 phone can apart from take really good pics.

Pretty sure USA and Europe don't share blacklist

I would imagine that once you get the police involved and let eBay and/or Paypal know, one of them will be strongly encouraged to step in and do something.

It's one of two things...

Either hes trying to commit insurance fraud and you can roast his ass....
Or the phone is stolen and has been reported to the phone company who have finally blocked it, and you can also roast his ass...

Phones don't just get blocked for no reason.... However there is good news for you.... you can sell blocked phones if worst came to worst, you'd just get less money for it. People buy them to tinker with.

That too, a european will buy the phone OP if worst comes to worst. Just list it as "no signal" and people get it wink wink...

Edit: Grabs popcorn at the ready.... please deliver OP.

Sorry to hear this OP, hopefully you've learned not to use Ebay. The sooner that crap site goes under the better.

What annoys me the most about this is the time frame. This woman knew exactly what she was doing. The deliberation and intent behind this is so blatant it's unreal. I hope you nail her arse to the wall OP.

Best thing to do is ring Paypal and Ebay. And maybe the police. Sounds to me like they're trying to commit insurance fraud. I can't see it taking so long for the phone to get blocked if it was stolen when they sold it.

The second two points are just ridiculous.

Really?

You don't know whether the phone was rooted, and what flash image is installed on it. For all intents and purposes it could look normal, but have hidden code installed. Apps like Cerberus all sit hidden in the background and are impossible to remove for obvious purposes. What's to say somebody is not using that app to spy on you, or takeover your phone to commit bank fraud.

Secondly, it's a well known fact reverting a phone to factory default doesn't erase the data that was stored on the phone, which is recoverable with the right software.

Email ebay and paypal... also report it to the police.

With the police report, ebay and/or paypal will likely force the refund, even if it is past their 6 month limit.

If not, the police report and follow-up will likely force the seller into refunding you.

This sounds good.

Is it much of a journey for you and your tallest stocky mate to visit the address? Not telling you to break the law but the suggestion of a big guy often gets results.

another clueless post.

they can see who has been using the phone for the past 6 months. do you not think insurance companies are aware of all these scams?

how does the original owner explain to the insurance company that another sim has been using the phone for 6 months before they reported it stolen?

their story wouldn't add up. yo mate sum1 nicked ma phone. when was this? 6 months ago. why are you reporting it now?

Or she could just say that it was stolen yesterday and hope that the insurance company doesn't investigate.

Don't see how that's a clueless post but hey ho.
