Family Saloon Upgrade - rear leg room

Our 03 Passat is definitely considerably more roomy in the back than the 04 Octavia, and 96 A4 we've had.

I'm 6' 3" and have 3 kids aged 14, 11 and 4. Passat estate has been great for us over the last 4-5 years.

I wouldn't discount the Mazda, its a really nice car. Personally I'd be heading for a test drive in a Superb or a Mazda 6.

Tbh the Mazda is still top of my list. Looking online people put rear leg room a shade behind the superb, but only just. Boot is smaller but still much bigger than focus. Also sounds like it's much more engaging to drive and I'll likely get as much if not more spec for the money something like this:

Problem with that version of mazda 6, they only sell as an estate or saloon, so your probably going to want\need the estate.
My father in law has just purchased a new estate, top spec, sport nav or something, it has just about every toy you could want, looks good in and out, 2.0 petrol, never going to set the world on fire, but good economy and more reliable than the diesel engines in them. They facelifted them last year, subtle differences between them.

Yeah those two are face lifts (the have the bigger screen elevated above dash level). I'll take a look at them in the flesh to see how big the saloon is.

They also have different design DRLs on them. Dont get me wrong, the saloon is not small, just a big compromise when being used as a family car IMO.

The biggest drawback with the Mazda 6 saloon is the boot opening size. The boot is more than big enough for a family car the opening may be a little tight.

Well as an update - we decided on the Mazda 6 in the end - but the tourer, given the extra and more practical boot space. The boot should be more than enough for us, and can add roof bars for my bike. Should be picking it up on Saturday. It's not brand new, I couldn't justify the extra money over something that is 9 months old (even at broad speed prices for new, that the dealer wasn't really able to match anyway, it was going to be 3-4k more than what I've paid). Also got a free 1st year service thrown in and the next 2 years services for £250 and decent money PX for my Focus, so pretty happy that I'll have over 2 years warranty covered driving.

Ultimately the new Skoda Superb would've been an option but there aren't many (any!) used examples of the new shape around and the older model doesn't float my boat, again broad speed prices on the new model were a bit above my budget.

Really looking forward to getting it and playing with the gadgets!
