Hello guys,

contemplating upgrading my 780ti to either a Gigabyte 980TI Extreme gaming Windforce or a EVGA 980TI Classified.

There is a small difference in stock clocks but nothing significant, having never owned either brand which one would you go for and why?

I have a buyer lined up for my 780TI which is part of reason for upgrading while my 780TI has some value left and the fact i now have a 1440p monitor and the 780ti isnt always cutting it on max settings.

A 980Ti isn't going to cut either.

It's a very bad time to be spending £500+ on a GPU that's near EOL. New series incoming. Wait it out if you can?

My 980Ti cuts through 1440p most of the time?

I'd wait a couple of months and see what the new Pascal cards are like.

If you can't wait, I'd say the Classified.

Really i thought a 980TI will do great at 1440p?

I could wait it out and kind of agree with you about spending £500 now but with my 780ti sold its comes in around a £300 upgrade, so i was considering this as a £300 upgrade stopgap until next 1080TI or AMD Equivalent next year (if i feel i need to upgrade again). I was also thinking of getting a HTC Vive so the 980ti will be better there also.

EVGA for the warranty.

What  I'm running 1 980ti @ 3440x1440 and it plays every game I've thrown at it fine.

My 980ti eats pretty much everything I throw at it at 1440p.
Tomb Raider for instance at ultra gives a constant 60+fps.

As to which card, I have the gigabyte G1 & love it, it's watercooled so ultra quiet, but even when I had it air cooled it wasn't noisy.
EVGA I think have a better warranty service from what I've read but I've nevervhad any personal experience with it.

1080GTX is due in May... wait

Depends what the new cards bring, it appears that mid range that will be shown off as high end will match or quite possibly exceed the performance of a 980Ti however if the price is lower than the 980Ti is to be seen?

Either way prices of the 980Ti will likley fall if it is the case.

yea i understand but is it likely to fall lower then £300 for a while? because thats what the upgrade is costing me if i did it today, if i wait my 780TI becomes worthless and a 1080GTX will cost in region of 450-500 i guess.

Not really interested in mid range gear even if it is on par, ill only be disappointed when high end TI comes and get upgrade itch again.

My 980ti destroys 1440p.

The extreme cards are lovely and quiet, the air cooled is also cheaper than the classified

Just moved up to a Classy from 980 sli.
Quick test in the division last night say 10fps drop in 1080P BUT 4fps gain in 4K:confused:
I need to find/reinstall drivers to check.

EVGA all the way last 4 cards.

I was just looking at the EVGA range and the 980TI FTW seems to have same clocks as the Classy but classy is £10

Whats difference?

@1400p it will be fine but I have a 3440x1440 and my TX struggles with the new titles a bit.

Gsync helps though and at that I would say he may benefit from a new monitor rather than a GPU which will be shortly outdated

Don't downgrade to mid range Polaris or Pascal when they arrive, try and pick up a second TX cheap instead.

12gb beats 8gb for gaming with upcoming titles.

Hi

Please also remember as long as you register your EVGA card within 14 days you are eligible for the step up programme. If you are nervous that something new might launch and want the option to upgrade within 90 days of purchase to this, then this programme is great for you.

Please just remember to register your product within 14 days of purchase.

Any questions please let me know or check the following link:

Thanks
Ben

FTW vs Classified: both are custom PCBs of which the latter is larger (wider), but also carries better components and more power phases. In short, the latter is the better clocker if you like playing with stuff and for only a tenner more...take the Classified! Currently, here, the FTW is more expensive lol

Although I seriously doubt Pascal coming this May, suppose it does, you may be able to use the EVGA step up programme if you time your Ti purchase right and go Pascal if it's any good?

Edit: lol Ben beat me to it
