Holiday to Istanbul

Turkey is just a horrible place. I hope your wife isn't blonde and the leering men try not to stick their hand up her dress, like the lot that did with my missus !

my mrs had a similar experience when we went. Not saying all turks are the same but all the ones at the resort we went to were slime balls.

Turkey is already in Europe (at least a good chunk of it is). As for EU membership, I think that may still be some way off.

It amazes me the scaremongering that goes on with that. Turkey's application to join and the resultant almost continuous discussion around it date from 1987!

The best thing about Turkey is when you leave.

Wouldnt go even if I won a free holiday. Would give to someone I dont like.

I can read, thanks. Still, I wouldn't class it as no-go, or not go myself. The fact Charlie Hebdo happened, then there were the more recent Paris attacks, didn't make Paris no-go to me, either.

To be fair you are Moses, a Prophet...

Just pointing out for the OP, as in the 24 hours since he asked if the place was safe a busy street was blown up by a suicide bomber.
Whether you would go or not isn't overly relevant, it was to provide him with information following you hilarious comment that 'LOL @ Turkey'.

A prison officer was blown up in Northern Ireland 2 weeks ago and died, but it still leaves Northern Ireland safer than most UK cities for crime rates and chances of death.
Turkey, however, is full of refugees, fighting with their closest neighbours, and actually attracting attacks form those we would see as 'moderate' and fighting against ISIS.
The place always has been a corrupt mess, but the tourist areas were generally secure, now bombings and attacks are starting to filter into those areas as well.
It isn't helping the overall stability.

Okay, thank you everyone for sharing their experiences and advice regarding Istanbul. The attack that has just happened in Istanbul has completely put us off so we have crossed that off the list!

Now to find somewhere else to go..

Spain, Portugal or some parts of Italy would be my suggestion.

I'm sure there are more 'dangerous' places per se in terms of terror. But at least they'd have less leering Turks. I remember the men making moves on young teens at the hotel pool. Like 12, 13 yr olds.

To the OP. I hope you do not have a young daughter or a wife with a set of legs. Cos the respect towards the women is below to what you might expect from a normal human civilization.

Thousands of migrants leaving Turkey for northern Europe, and where does an Englishman want to go on holiday? Turkey..... There'll be enough Turks over here soon enough, once they get Visa free travel to parts of Europe, without risking your neck going there to see some :)

Do you even know what Visa free travel is?

It's exactly the same thing people from Columbia get. Or New Zealand. Or Argentina.

Or us when we visited the USA. Or Australia.

It doesn't mean you can live there or kick around there for as long as you want. It just means you can visit without paying for a visa if you are an eligible citizen.

It's also only for the Schengen zone so they can't enter the UK without a visa anyway.

and Brazil, which does wonders for the high-class escort scene in London.
