970 still holding their price

I'm sure someone described the Fury X as the "980ti killer" prior to it's official launch. They even had it in their signature.

Oh wait...

Actually post Crimson drivers, has become the one. :)

And on DX12, even the 390X does that.

How am I scaremongering? It is the other guy saying sell, sell, sell.

All I am saying as that based on pretty much all previous generations we will ikely have an X70 card for around £300 that performs similarly (possibly and hopefully a bit faster though as we have die shrink this time) to the 980Ti. That is literally the most likely outcome based on all the evidence we have.

Also, it is helpful to no one , including the OP, if you just make things up. 780Ti's could be had for £300 within a few weeks of the 970 and 980 release not years

A few months prior to this, the 780Ti was still selling for ~£500. The 780Ti was released in November 2013 and was £500-£550 and less than a year later in October 2014 you could get them for £300. Those are the facts whether you like them or not.

I wish people would stop pulling stuff out of their ****. It isn't helpful for anyone.

It is you making things up.

Jono8 don't let it bother you mate. Could care less what he says. Lots of posters here talk nonsense any ways.

Mid range Pascal/Polaris won't have much different transistor count to Big Maxwell/Fiji.

This year is going to be quite dull for GPUs with minimal performance increases.

Early next year is when things become more interesting when we see Big Polaris/Pascal GPUs.

Worse still for Mid range Pascal is NVidia are putting the compute functions back in meaning there will be an additional performance penalty.

They'll be a lot cheaper to make! So suddenly we'll be able to get today's top end for half the price at lower power consumption. Not to mention new features that come with next gen. Sorry but its going to be anything but dull. Existing Maxell owners should be happy out for a period, but anyone considering buying a 28nm card at this stage is out of their minds IMO.

Cost to bring to market =/= cost to manufacture. You don't think R&D is free, do you?

Don't be surprised when NVidia start selling these cards close to the GTX 980 Ti price point.

To start with these new cards won't be a lot cheaper to make as it will take time to improve chip yields.

Well they will be a decent bit quicker than a 980Ti then.

It makes no sense to release something as your next generation for the same price as the 980Ti, if it is only barely faster. No one will buy it.

Don't think so

The GTX 980 was not much faster than the 780 Ti, this was more noticeable at high resolutions.

This will be the first iteration of Pascal, I doubt we'll see huge leaps in performance from the entry level/mid level cards aimed at mass market.

The guys with 970s looking to upgrade will get something equivalent, or very close to, 980ti performance for £300-350 I reckon. They benefit nothing from releasing massively fast cards at bargain prices right from the get-go, they need to milk it so expect a moderated pace in the release of cards with moderate performance increases.

I wouldn't expect bargain basement 980ti prices either. They will take a tumble but nowhere near the £250-300 mentioned in this thread.

It's a new die shrink this time. It should be faster. Like said before you and others on here don't work for Nvidia. You, me any other posters here don't have a clue what Nvidia or AMD have in store for us.

I know but the 980 was £425 not £550 which is my point as you said dont be surprised if Nvidia start selling the medium pascal cards for 980ti prices

Arghh! This place is hilariously stupid sometimes.

You're becoming a broken record. I think you've told /everybody/ what your crystal ball has told you, and gone to great pains to tell us you've got the one true ball.

Can we move on now?
