GF's Spark went in for a service and they said the rear silencer needs replacing as the bracket has broken off and is hanging loose. (explains the rattling!)

Anyway, dealer wants €250 plus labour for a new one as it's too rusty to re-weld the bracket on.

This is clearly a lot for a backbox on a ****** little Chevy so I thought I'd look online but I can't find ANYTHING!

Help!

It's a 2011 1.2 (M300) but I can't find any spares anywhere :/

That doesnt seem that expensive for a genuine part?

There's some on ebay UK - maybe try that or breakers?

Sounds like my Yaris debacle, I was quoted £270.

All I can say is try an Indy and see if you can get it cheaper.
Madness.

Probably not, but it's a lot to spend on a ****** little Spark!
The only thing I found on ebay was a rather used one from Italy for 15 quid. Can't see anything in the UK at all.

I found brand new OE one at a breakers in southern NL (car only did 100km before it had an accident). Haggled him down to €65 :D

Here you go OP.

//Personally I'd go to a local breakers yard, or alternatively get someone to weld one up. Doesn't take long if you find a decent fabricator.

I'd get a quote for a local exhaust place to replace the back box with their own stuff. I.e Cobra exhausts / Exhaustsuk.

Is it genuinely too rusty to weld a bracket back on?

Just had to have this done on a DS3 ( and had to have it done on the Aygo previous to that), local garage welded them back on cheap as chips.

God knows what they make the brackets out of.

The cheapest, nastiest rust attracting rubbish money can buy. I replaced the backbox bracket on my Mini a few weeks ago and even the new one looked like it was welded together by Stevie Wonder. It was honestly one of the worst pieces of craftsmanship I've ever seen and this was supposedly a good one too. God only knows what the cheap rubbish must be like

Eur car parts not got nowt for it?
As above any exhaust doctor style place should be able to weld on a generic backbox and bracket. Hell you could even measure it up and buy a generic one on eBay.

if its just the back box head to a "tuner/performance place" and get a box that fits your pipe section.

Peugeot wanted £160 for just a back box on my missus car halfords sold a back box for £60..

Mr Exhaust don't list the spark however a Kalos is £82.58 Inc fitting & VAT for a rear box fitted. A big old beast like a Captive is £109.34 Inc fitting & VAT. So sounds like they want a lot of money just for the new bracket + a little bit of welding.

Picked one up from a breaker's yard. £50 for what looks like a brand new one, albeit 5 years old (car was damaged on delivery apparently). Hopefully it fits!
