So my paste i had for years run out, what is the best within reasonable price thermal compound ? Going to clock X5650 air cooled with a good after market heat sink and fan ( cant remember the make)

It's all pretty similar really. Apart from the likes of the liquid metal stuff they are mostly within a degree or two of each other. I use Gelid GC Extreme these days but used Arctic Cooling MX-4 before that. Both are easy to work with and give very good results. I see little point in paying a small fortune for something that will only give me a few tenths of a degree extra cooling. I can get that by adjusting fan speed.

I agree with you. I use Arctic Cooling MX-4 and don't see any reason to pay more.

^ Good for you.

But I would recommend Thermal Grizzly better temps, spreads easy etc etc etc......
