OP if you're worried about the ERL being difficult t set up and use - don't be. It's really quite simple and any more advanced stuff is easily done using a guide online or their forums![]()

Don't worry about ERL config. You can do everything you need for a basic Single LAN Single WAN setup on the GUI.
DO NOT CONFIGURE BRIDGED LAN PORTS. It's software based and will DESTROY throughput. Use a single WAN port and single LAN port. Leave the spare LAN port disabled or, if you require - On a different subnet.
Some stuff will require CLI, but it's largely documented by Ubiquiti. Or failing that, most VyaTTa OS guides translate. Things you will need to use CLI for are:
OpenVPN
A Dynamic DNS provider which is not available in the GUI
Obscure performance/hardware/functionality config tweaks
Where did you order it from? I can think of 2 UK suppliers straight off my head.

The only time I needed to use commandline was for creating an ARP entry for wake on lan over the internet.

For the initial setup, I used a netbook and statically set the IP on the netbook as 192.168.1.2.
Then enter 192.168.1.1 in a webbrowser and you'll get the login page.
-Update it to 1.8.0 firmware before setting it up. Then use the setup wizard
This may help.

Reading into it, a lot of people state that the uniquiti networks are hard to setup for those without networking experience. Would you agree with that?
So... I may have run into a little problem with my unifi AP. I currently am on EE mobile broadband for the next few weeks and so I figured I'd try setting up the LAN using an old router I found until the new one arrives so that I could test out my steam link over wifi. It didn't work though :/
I plugged my old TP-Link (tl-wr841n) into my PC and attached the AP to it. At first I got nothing from the AP at all, so I installed the software and reset the AP and router and finally a solid blue light. I setup the SSID and the AP is broadcasting it (though I can't connect to it). The controller then said it had a "missing heartbeat" and went disconnected. I've never managed to get the AP to connect again and it's never shown a blue light since.
At first I thought I'd killed the AP and borked some sort of automatic firmware update. I am assuming this is impossible because it wouldn't have had internet access to have even attempted that. I have fixed my PC IP to 192.168.1.3 and reinstalled the controller, but that didn't help anything.
Do you guys have any idea on what is going on with the AP? I thought it would just plug and play with this router.
Try downloading the Ubiquiti discovery tool, it runs on broadcast traffic so should sniff out the AP, chances are it just needs a reset and reconfigure.
Not at all. I didn't use the CLI at all and it wasn't any harder to set up than my old Asus router. The Unifi Pro AP is awesome though, one totally covers my house with good signal whereas my old router struggled in some places.
I had a similar problem with my AP when I moved all my CAT5 in my new house to mount it properly to the ceiling. It was working fine, but when I unplugged it and plugged it into the new cable it just seemed to bork itself. After playing around with the reset button on it, it came back to life and I haven't had a problem since.

I tried plugging the dongle into an old router, but no internet access via the router meant I couldn't log into the TP link web interface because it turns out that isn't hosted on the router.
Use the TP-Link's IP address instead of tplinkwifi.net.
