Apple's March 21st 2016 event

The biggest reason to have 4gb is future proofing in my view. My ipad mini is fine in apps for the most part but browsing is almost a non-starter. It takes about 3 sec to bring up the keyboard after you have clicked on the address bar.
 
I'm going with iPad Air 2 with it's £50 price cut. That makes it just £30 more than the mini for the 9.7" screen and the X variant of the A8 processor which seems a no-brainer.
 
Why the hell don't they just state the ram at launch. If that's the case I will just get the Air 2. Which makes the price increase just for the Pro name as I said earlier.

The Processor bump would have happened anyway. The storage would have happened anyway. So what is the price increase for? Extra speakers and the option to buy extras I don't want or need.

Screw that.
 
Apple never state the RAM specs for iOS devices. There's no need, it's an sealed appliance - not like there's another iOS tablet from a different manufacturer they need to outsell....
 
Ipad air even when bought at the release was crashing like crazy. Few tabs in chrome , crash, switching between tabs constant refresh (I hated this from the start). 1GB was not enough for comfortable web browsing (safari is better in this matter, less crashes but very often refresh, refresh just by switching tabs back and forth). iphone 6 is reloading quicker due to faster processor but still very often reloads pages (again 1gb). Not to mention apps working in background...there is no point they will need to reload after short time.

So 2GB is a must just for web browsing and comfortable operating between apps.

New ipads pro are supposed to comfortably work with latest multitasking, 2 apps at the same time etc. so difference between 2gb and 4gb might be noticeable while playing around (not sure). So definite no from me unfortunately:/
 
I wish Apple would stop being so cynical with how they spec the memory on their devices and make the entry level 64Gb . I think they know fine most people won't be happy going for 32Gb and the next upgrade level is 128Gb for another £120!

Was going to upgrading my Air on release but I am holding off now. 2gb ram is putting me off even more, going to wait a few months for a price drop from third party sellers.
 
Changed my mind on ordering the 9.7" 128GB iPad Pro and ordered a 12.9" 128gb iPad Pro instead for £663 + £145 in store credit so about £518 all in (I forgot to use Quidco for a possible extra saving), seamed like a no brainer with it having a bigger screen, more ram (4GB vs 2GB) ,faster clocked processor and it been around a £100 cheaper than Apple charge for the 9.7" 128GB iPad Pro.

Flip it on it's head and look at it another way. Business users don't need that much memory. 64Gb is the standard model with a downgrade to 16/32GB for those who don't need the capacity.

Not everyone uses the device in the exact same way you do...

It's annoyed me too. I sold my 12.9" Pro with a view to waiting for the 9.7", hoping for the same spec but in a smaller package. The 12.9" was too big for me and we often found ourselves (missus and I) opting to use the Air 2 for watching TV/Movies in bed.

I'll likely still get a 9.7" but remain cynical of Apple for dropping the RAM in a device they choose to market as "Pro".

I must say, I never realised I'd appreciate the four speakers as much as I did. The sound is far better for watching movies and listening to music.

Couldn't agree more. Just had to sell my iPad 2 since even Safari became unusable. They should cap the OS at a certain limit so users don't cripple their devices by upgrading. I wasn't aware this could happen so I just kept updating since iPad told me to.

You should try my iphone 4S work phone. It just about manages to make a phone call, nevermind waiting 5mins to load up Safari.

I refuse to believe that through the various updates there is a any new functionality that slows this phone down. I've disabled all sorts, including GUI elements, to try and release some power.

Ultimately I remain firm in my conspiracy theory that Apple purposely slow down older devices to force upgrades on people :mad:

Makes you wonder why they don't want to open up IOS to the FBI, theyre probably scared of what shady tactics Apple are up to :p

I read something like this on BBC a few years ago, some guy gathered a bunch of data showing that iPhones slow down over time.

They should call it "Introduced Obsolescence".
 
I have an Ipad Air 2 (64GB) that I bought a few months ago.

I have to say I have no issues with performance on it. I will regularly sit with a video playing in the bottom corner and then Chrome maximised with several tabs running.

I don't expect it to be a laptop replacement but as a portable email/media/browsing device I really rate it.
