I often get mirth at wearing shorts through the winter (even in snow)

But shorts and knee socks are actually very practical and quite warm enough except in the coldest of weather.

You do not end up with wet trouser bottoms and socks can be changed during the day.

You do not end up wearing through the knees either (My work requires me to get down on my knees from time to time)
