Heyo!

So right my current washing machine was just a generic cheapest-they-had one from the high street, cost about £100 and it makes more noise than you can possibly imagine. I'd put it somewhere around 90dB or maybe more, it's like having a Subaru revving in your living room / kitchen.

Anyway I want a washer-dryer (because I don't have space in the flat for a separate tumble dryer).

And I want your recommendations! I find pages online all over the place recommending them. Talking about the proprietary quietness patents that Samsung models have and blah blah.

I just want a washer-dryer that works, works well, is quiet, and hopefully is efficient (A++ is what I'd hope for…).

Do such things exist? At the moment I just have a washer and having clothes out 24/7/365 in front of the gas fire is a PITA!

Thanks!

Cool, no doubt a lot quieter than the one I have anyway.

I've heard Miele do something excellent? Know anything about that? I haven't the foggiest.

Miele's cheapest washer dryer is £1300. If you're happy to pay that, get one.

The dryers don't tend to be much good on washer dryers, if you want the stuff to dry properly you need to reduce the load to about half really and they take a long time.

I've been very happy with my Samsung washer dryer, it's very quiet and does a decent wash in just over an hour.

As per above, I found the dryer in the washer/dryer (will update post tomorrow with model) to be rubbish as well - it took ages. The washing part is great though, about 1hr 15mins for a normal wash. I ended up getting a separate dryer in the end.

Bosch EcoSilence Drive is very quiet, from someone who used to use cheapo machines that you couldn't even hear yourself talk over the final spin cycle, these things are amazingly quiet in comparison.

If you have the space go separate washer and dryer, general consensus seems to be that the combi units are expensive and don't work that well.

Haha that's probably quieter than the one I have @the_shadow!

@blueboy2001 yeah nah that's just way too expensive. And I don't mind putting in half loads (I've been seeing 4kg and 130min) just so long as it avoids bloody horse rails or whatever you call them.

Something at £400 would be perfect, but I guess I can stretch that a little.

Thanks for all the responses!

We just bought one of these a few weeks ago after our old Indesit finally died. Like you, we don't have space for separate machines. It's impressively quiet, and can wash an 8 kilo cotton load in an hour on the quickwash. If you check the specs, you are supposed to put less laundry in if you are using some of the other wash programs. If you overload the dryer, clothes can still be damp, so just run it though again allowing it to auto-dry.

Even doing a full spin, it's very, very quiet, though you want to make sure it's levelled properly and standing on something solid.

I found the front flap over the pump trap could get a little rattly at certain load/spins, so I just put a little rubber washer on the plastic catch to hold it more solidly in place.

Although it's not as deep as other washers, be aware the back is very flat, apart from just near the top where you are supposed to route the pipes and cables. If you have any pipes or sockets behind it, you won't be able to push it against the wall. The program knob and the fish-eyed door add about 2 cm to the listed depth.

We looked at the LG and the Samsung, and found the Bosch just felt less plasticy and more solid, and it really lives up to its claims of being very quiet. I don't think you'll get more than A energy on washer/dryers, because the design is a compromise to get both functions into one machine, so they will never be as efficient as a separate washer and dryer.
