I think its just luck of the draw tbh, like if you get a good clocker or not.
He's thinking of the Fury Pro. The nano has the same amount of shaders as the Fury X anyway

Whilst the Nano has the edge on performance I understand that you're pretty much guaranteed some degree of coil whine with it. Not sure if that would be an issue for you.
So everyone say get nano but everyone also say wait...
At this point in time i have NO GPU, so waiting will be harder for me than most others.
Gpu will be going into a water cooled ITX build that will be on my 4k TV, the TV is happy at 1440.
I say ITX build but the case will take a full size GPU.
Why not if I may ask![]()
I know it's hard to wait. I want to upgrade my 970 too, but I'm holding out the best I can. I refuse to buy a gpu that's near eol.
Many issues with clocks bouncing all over the place, some times crashes or poor performance, fan speeds not working, are associated with the MSI AB.
With 16.3+ the Overdrive is more than sufficient to do the job, and that includes overclocking etc.

I've got a pair of Nanos and they have very slight coil whine. I'm pretty sure it's only detectable because the Nanos are so quiet, on a less efficient card fan noise would down it out completely.I have 3 Nanos. All are the most silent graphics cards I've had. There is zero whine from any of them. There's also zero buzz whatsoever from any of them .... a first in my experience for a high power graphics card at full load. Further, the fans are quiet in absolute terms and seem to have quite a low pitch, so are fairly unintrusive.
The overall quietness of the Nano has hugely impressed me. It's a very easy card to live with.
I'd recommend waiting for Pascal
If you really HAVE to buy now, then 980 will give guaranteed good performance in every game, including all those games with gameworks effects.
The nano is hit and miss - drivers can be quite bad for new releases.
LOL You can definately tell that Dave is going Pascal next round.
It looks like he has now completely sold his soul to Nvidia and recommending a lower powered card, all for a few GW effects. They certainly got their Jedi Mind tricks working on him as he's even throwing in the old whinge about AMD drivers. Use the Force Dave, use the Force.![]()
lol, after watching a few vids and some bench info the nano is 100% the better card
