Anyone with these? I had a 3G plan with Virgin and then I bought a One+ X so swapped to GiffGaff for 4G. My download speeds are usually pretty terrible. Speedtest can vary between 3-10 down and around 15-20 up. When it comes to downloading podcasts or app updates from the play store I am getting around 30kb/s which is awful!

I ditched them end of last year after seeing dialup like speeds most of the time - 40-50kbit/s not even kbytes. Fortunately was just a backup sim. Swapping to an O2 sim in the same place would be in the 10s of mbits.

Here is a quick speed test I did with Giffgaff the other day, one with 4G on and the other with 3G

Pathetic as you can see. I was wondering if there is or should be some kind of rule about advertising a 4G service when it can only deliver these kinds of speeds. Broadband companies get a lot of stick for not delivering advertised speeds, and I realise a mobile supplier doesn't quote specific speeds but surely when offering 4G people have a certain expectation.

This is my speed test result with 4g Giff Gaff. I don't really know what speeds i should get with 4G but I'm happy with that result.

Getting around this as well, giffgaff's traffic has less priority than O2's so we get poorer speeds. I'm only with them for coverage reasons.

You could have a look at BT, they use EE's network but is more nicely priced last time I looked.

I think I'm going to leave GG too. Pathetic speeds for way too long now.

Does anyone know the best sim only deal for 4GB of data a month? I'm currently paying £15 a month to GG for what I don't know.

Much better than mine, though still rubbish for 4G.

I guess location (though signal certainly wasn't and issue for me), and also time of day. I tested mine while waiting to catch the bus home from work, I imagine a time of the day when the network is particularity busy.

Yeah I think I will leave as well. This basically means there was no point in me leaving virgin and getting 4G as it is no faster, it's pathetic.

It seems BT do not do 30 day contracts so that leaves EE or Three. Think I shall go with Three

£22 for 4GB from EE Here, pretty much the best deal I've found. £21 for the same directly from Three so it's six and half a dozen really.

Could probably get a cheaper deal with one of the piggyback networks (Virgin, ID, Tesco etc) but chances are you'll run into the same issues as Giffgaff. BT have a deal on just now with 20GB for £21 a month, they still piggyback onto EE but being BT they probably have a bit more clout to not get strangled service.

Voda do 4GB + 6 months entertainment pack for £20/m available until 9th April or for a little more 6GB and 12 months entertainment pack - if you use one of the services in the entertainment pack like spotify it isn't bad value.

(Its currently £13/m with cashback through site above - as its a new deal they don't seem to have the updated pricing and have it at £22/m before cashback).

And that there is the reason I'm still with giffgaff.

As GG was a backup sim for me I'd have been happy with those speeds but I never saw anything like that when testing in multiple locations in the south from London through to Devon. Best was around 0.3/1.2 and more often more like 0.04/0.2 in mbit/s.

I dont like the coverage i get from EE or Three. I dont use mobile internet a massive amount so i'll stick with giff gaff

I used to get full signal and awful throughput. You can tell their data packets are at the bottom of the pile. It's the reason I'm now on three.

Ive just switched from three to o2, this is the speed I can get at quiet times

During busy times of day it's between 20 and 35 meg down so still decent.
I wouldn't go near giff gaff though from what I've heard about their data speeds during the day time.

Cheers
