2015 Mondeo 2.0 ecoboost or 2015 Superb 2.0 TSI?

Lots of space in the Superb, have you ordered it yet?
You need to get the rear wiper, it's so annoying when you can't clear the rear window.

Not yet mate, I'll be popping back next week when I get chance. I think I'll be getting the rear wash/wipe, I remember moaning about not having one too many times in my mk2. :o

Just because I hate threads with no resolution:

We ordered the Superb 2.0 TSI (220) SE-L Executive DSG hatch this week. I ended up adding the flappy paddles, colour maxidot (the second computer screen between the speedo and rev counter) and the rear wiper. I figured I'd spend more time inside the car wishing I could see out of it, than outside the car thinking the wiper spoiled the lines. :p The SE-L exec comes with an upgraded 8" touchscreen (Columbus) v the 6" version found in lower trims (and the Octy VRS) which is a nice bonus.

After seeing petrol blue in the flesh we decided against it. It looked more like an oily green colour in person and I thought some of the other colours looked nicer. My wife really liked the recession white, so we compromised and went for the dark metallic 'quartz grey'.

As for the black v beige leather debate; after visiting the showroom and inspecting both I ordered black alcantara with leather bolsters and sides lol. They felt much more sturdy/supportive compared to full leather, with the added bonus of being much more grippy and without the whole hot in summer, cold in winter issue. Still heated and fully electrically adjustable so a good outcome I think.

They reckon lead times for factory orders are a bit hit and miss atm, so it could be here in 8 weeks or we could wait closer to 20. Either way it should be worth the wait. I'll throw up some pics and first impressions once it's here.

It makes me laugh that you have to actually specify that you want a rear wiper on a hatchback, it's not like it's a beautifully-designed coupe where it might look a little out of place! :p

Well it isn't really because the Superb has a very sloped rear screen, much like that on a saloon rather than that on a smaller hatchback like a Golf. As a result, road debris etc doesn't get swept up by a vortex generated around the rear of the vehicle obscuring the view and the flow of air over the car as it's in motion clears the screen.

As a result of this a rear wiper is essential on a Golf shaped car - and therefore fitted as standard on them as a result - and unnecessary on a saloon hence why you almost never find them.

The last car I had a rear wiper on was a Ford Mondeo - another car with a sloped rear windscreen. I almost never felt the need to use it and have not once missed it since moving to cars which don't have them. They are simply not required.

Yep on saloons I've had I missed it when turning around in the morning, even when rain-x'd the dew or raindrops sitting on it would obstruct the screen. On hatches and estates it's quite important when moving but I don't think it's fair to say they're pointless on anything with a sloped screen. One of the reasons you never see them on saloons is that it would be very difficult to find somewhere to mount them

I don't honestly miss it on the civic, the car that everyone and their dog complained about not having one, I find the mirrors far more useful for judging the back end on that car

Heated rear screen gets rid of the dew pretty sharpish...

Not quick enough when you need to reverse when you first get in. No rear wiper means a 5 min wait or you wipe it off yourself each time.
I use a rear wiper more than Sat Nav - engage reverse and the wiper clears the rear screen automatically.

No it doesn't. I've never had to 'wait 5 minutes' before reversing off the drive and I've not had a rear wiper fitted to my car for almost 10 years. It's just... fine?

On the sort of cars you buy - hatchbacks - I'd not want to be without one (We've got one on the Mini) but on saloon shape cars they are just not required and honestly this thread is the first time i've thought about a rear wiper in ages! It's just a non issue.

Walked past a parked Superb earlier (Nice looking cars btw) and I'd definitely not spec a rear wiper on it, although it's a hatch it looks exactly like a saloon at the rear.

A little bumpage...

I had a small wobble shortly after ordering and decided to switch the colour back to the petrol blue. Having seen some real life examples on the Superb it really does suit. The car was built on 29th February and was in Emden (the port of exit in Germany) on 2nd March. It finally arrived at the dealership via Grimsby docks a few days ago, and we will be collecting the car on Friday (1st April). :D

The dealership are under orders to leave on the transport wrap, interior wraps and seat protectors, and to not wash it under any circumstances. They were perfectly happy with this, and the guy who actually took the order asked if I'd come back to show him the end product once the car has had a proper new car protection detail. :D

Fallout remover, tar remover, clay, snow foam, nano paint sealant, C2v3 liquid crystal, Sonax BSD, C5 armour (alloys), G1 glass sealant, fabric guard, dash guard, Gliptone leather conditioner, and a box full of miscellaneous products eagerly await the new arrival. It's gonna be a busy weekend!

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I thought some of you may appreciate the update.

Good choice, I think they look great.

On a separate note, what kind of man has to reverse out off their drive in the morning!? I thought all men reversed on to their drives! :p

This. Ha ha ha. The boys work obviously doesn't take Health and Safety seriously else it would just be second nature by now, lol.

Looks great. Would be interested to know how you get on with the car after a few months of ownership as I have just started early research into my next car and the my initial thoughts match exactly what you have ordered the 2.0 Petrol hatch.
