Anyone chew gum here as a way to help cravings so you eat less? Sugerfree gum that is.

Looking at starting chewing gum pretty much all day in an effort to cut down on snacks.

Gum chewing's fine when it's once in a while, It stops you from smoking and brightens your smile, But it's repulsive, revolting and wrong, Chewing and chewing all day long.

Singapore has banned it.

singapore has it right. nasty stuff. sticks everywhere. stinks, and not of a nice smell. makes you look like you have a mental twitch in your jaw.

the sooner its banned here the better.

it smells horrible, you look like a moron and its littered all over the streets.

wish they would ban it

just get some healthy snacks

carrot sticks
healthy nuts
raisins

On the tube the other day I had some masticating right by my ear. It was really rather unpleasant.

Agreed. At our work there is one idiot who spits his chewing gum into the urinals. I want this guy found and fired for gross misconduct.

I do at work.

I spend half my time under forced air, without it my mouth and throat dry out.

Current hotness is the extra ice bubble mint, which is fantastic as it's sold in the uk. Every so often I drop a 40 odd quid order on a stateside importer for tridents, the American gum selection is huge.

I use it loads, but then I chew with my mouth shut and make sure it doesn't bother anyone, and I never have a conversation with someone with gum in my mouth. Always throw it in the bin.

Anyone chewing gum and making life unpleasant for others by doing so is a neanderthal and had a crap upbringing.

We have a nice chap at work who pees on the seat with it down. I caught him in the act once and he thought it was perfectly fine. I asked him why he didn't lift the seat up and he simply replied that he didn't want to touch the seat.

Sitting in his pee is or cleaning it up for him is perfectly fine though apparently.

On topic. What's wrong with the smell of gum? Surely mint is fine?

Well after you chew it for so long it loses flavour. Maybe he's just refilling the flavour. He'll return to collect the gum later.

My female house mate doesn't understand why we need to lift the seat before peeing, maybe I'll stop for a few days and then she'll understand.

It's self defeating thinking. Eating gum all day long is basically just getting your body used to chewing and 'eating' all day long, when you run out of gum or can't beat your craving you'll probably end up eating more anyway. Breaking the habit is the only way to give it up.

My mum is dumb about this, she spent years eating ridiculous sized salads, but it only got her used to eating a huge volume of food. When she didn't eat a salad she would eat a ridiculously large portion of bad food. You have to break a bad habit and replace it with a good one, not a self defeating worse one.

Eat food that fills you up more(fats and proteins) and find healthy snacks you can fall back on. If you try not to eat then give in and the only thing available is a mars bar from the vending machine that is what you'll eat. If you plan ahead with a nice tasting protein shake with a couple hundred calories in but of a little fat and good quality protein you'll be hugely better off.

Gum is not the answer, the right food is the answer.

Funny, the salad method. It is what people who compete in eating competitions do; load on salad and lettuce. It allows them to really stuff themselves and gets them use to huge quantities. Difference is, those guys do it and only eat large amounts of other stuff when competing, the average person would just increase the quantity of food they intake on their standard diet.

Take your time eating and pause during the meal. I found this method great for reducing the amount i ate and helping me feel full for much longer.

I use to love the feeling of eating till i was really full but now because i got use to eating till satisfied with the above method, i now find being full uncomfortable and generally do not crave snacks when i am not actually hungry.

I remember reading online somewhere that chewing gum actually increases your appetite.

Because you are chewing something, your stomach gets ready to recieve food, and when it doesn't your cravings increase.

Obviously this could be completely wrong, I don't know, it sounds logical
