Hi guys

I currently have a 2008 BMW 520d saloon and looking for a new car. It has been really good but it now has 191,000 miles on it (I do 30,000 a year).

Since I am doing 30,000 a year, ideally I want a car with low mileage that will do me 3 years and then I can change it again. So something with up to 40,000 and about 3 years old. I can't afford another BMW unfortunately due to my girlfriend expecting our first child so am looking at cheaper options. I have up to £13,000 and would like a similar size car as I use it for work. Cars that I have been looking at are:

Skoda Octavia
Skoda Superb
Hyundai i40
Kia Optima
VW Passat
VW Jetta
Toyota Avensis

I would like it to be an auto and a few toys and features if possible. Ipod input, DAB radio, reversing camera etc would be a bonus but sat nav not required as I use my phone.

Any advice on what my options are would be most appreciated.

Cheers :)

Thanks iaind

I like the superb but might just be a little over my budget. The problem is I want an auto and they tend to be more money.

It's definitely the best car of the lot - might be worth stretching the mileage requirement slightly if that helps?

The Octavia is a great car, but it's closer to a Golf size so isn't really comparable in terms of ride quality. Same for the Jetta. The i40 is decent enough but again isnt in the same class and the engine options all suck.

I was doing similar miles a while back and had a Peugeot 508 - don't let the frenchness put you off, it was a great car for that sort of usage and really good value.

The GT will have everything - Xenon/LED lights with cornering assist/automatic high beam, full heated leather with a massage function, parking space measurement, full length sunroof

Big bills mulpsmebeauty really. The car has been reliable overall and I love it but with it coming up to 200,000 I am scared of it starting to cost me thousands.

What you will be told is that buying a new car for £13,000 instead buys you a lot of repairs.

Just a bit scared of the frenchness to be honest. It does look like a lot of car for the money. Are they more reliable these days?

It's my girlfriend more than anything LiE. Am am happy to keep running this but she worries of the cost of repairs.

but she's not worried about you dropping 13k on a new car? sounds a bit weird to say the least, for 13k you could probably run a very broken e60 for a good 2-3 years.

and at 200kish you're not going to get much for it so might as well run it to the ground and think about new car when it's uneconomical to repair.

I had mine 18 months and no issues at all. They're not what they used to be - even the quality of the interior etc. Go sit in one, you'll probably be surprised :)
