Going on a holiday in May booked a few months ago to Kos, Greece, and the ongoing migrant crisis only appears to be getting worse according to the media, especially with the new deal which could see migrants being forced back to Turkey.

Has anyone been on holiday to Greece recently? Is it something I should consider cancelling the holiday for...?

There has been a dramatic increase in the number of migrants and refugees arriving on Greek islands, including Lesvos, Kos and Samos, and seeking to continue their journey via Greece to other EU countries. The British Embassy is keeping the situation under review, but at present there are no reports of any specific risks to British nationals visiting these islands or at border crossing points. You can find general information and advice about safety and security in Greece in this travel advice.

Tough decision imo.

The economic migrants will bring more cultural diversity to boring quiet Greece

And destroy every thing that made Greece, Greece.

When great minds don't even know how to think :)

e: Actually, let's do a pop quiz. Stopper, tell us about Greece and what made it great. No linkies, just your own words.

I know nothing baout Greece. But I see every day what's happening in my own country.

Greece had very exotic wild life such as men mixed with bulls and women mixed with birds, but evil white men killed them all :(

So you're going to a country you know nothing about and are informing yourself through things you see in the UK.

Ok.

Hmm. C'mon champ, don't blow the 4th wall too hard.

Pretty valid question, one of my old university friends actually volunteers in Lesvos right now and going by what's going on there and the pictures I can't say I'd be interested in going there for a holiday. Not sure what Kos is like but if it's anything like Lesvos I'd think twice about going, i.e. book a holiday somewhere else.

The OP seemed a perfectly reasonable question to me...

This.

I can't comment on Greece, but I did go to Budapest days after the whole migrant thing (I think I was there the day after the reporter tripped one of the migrants). Situation was very calm even though the media made it out to be the end of the world. I was living very close to one of the larger camps in Budapest (friend's house) and they were very quiet, respectful, and genuinely didn't notice I was very close (200m) to their camp until 2/3 days. Even when I passed very near them, it was like one large pic nic.

Train stations and public places were very calm in comparison to what was reported in the media (people sleeping in trains stations, utter chaos etc.) There was no extra police except the 2/3 security guards routinely paroling the area (not sure if this is a bad or good thing, but they were not needed anyway).

Obviously, Budapest is not Greece, and the situation in Greece might be different, but I found that the media sensationalized it A LOT, and the holiday went on with 0 problems.
