Gym advert targetting fat people is offensive

simple view here :)

when I say fat I don't mean the little podge that a normal person has I mean 'clinically obese' fat where it's rolling over their trousers when they try and fit in a size too small pair.
My views are pretty simple:
fat person at the gym - give them all the encouragement and support they need, they're making an effort to get back into a healthy condition.
fat person due to medical condition - doctor should be trying to help them where possible (not always possible)
fat person due to laziness (and in many cases on benefits) - don't really have the right to complain about their own life choices (bad diet and no exercise) when it's scientifically proven that being overweight is not good for you. Not to mention the additional strain on things like medical facilities etc

As to the adverts, seriously if we got worked up over every little advert that offends 1 or 2 people we'd have no time left in the day for anything else. Theres being pc and then theres trying to make something which isn't acceptable acceptable by complaining about it like in this case..

If I'm honest I'm sick of all the 'it's ok to be fat' rubbish going on right now when it's just not healthy to be fat.

I am a lazy person, don't like to do too much or break my back and am thin as hell 5 ft 10 and 9.5stone. I don't eat much as I don't do much, it really is not a hard concept to grasp.

More you do more you eat, less you do less you eat.

Fat people do my head in, if its not medical no excuse.

At 5ft 10in and only 9.5st you're in a really good position to put on muscle. Start eating and lifting and you will look like a god :)

(I'm serious)

If a fat person says the ad is offensive, then it's offensive. It's not the decision of some judgemental roid rage protein guzzler whether it's offensive or not.

It wouldn't be acceptable to punch someone in the face and then tell them it didn't hurt, would it?
Sticks and stone may break my bones.

If the truth hurts maybe it's time to do something about it.

Think it is offensive, if you know or care about someone who is overweight just think how that person feels seeing that poster.

That's rubbish and you know it. If it wasn't, then the rules of this forum shouldn't apply about supposed personal attacks. Even if it was true, it would get you a potential ban and why would that be?

No sympathy for fat people at all.

Unless medical of course.

Very very rarely would it be medical. I've been having Thyroid issues that should've had my morbidly obese by now. Even my endocrinologist says it's surprising that I still maintain great condition. I always assure him that it don't happen by pure accident. It's hard work to stay in shape. Most patients I've met at the clinic is obese or visibly overweight. Laziness wrapped in medical excuses.

Motivated?

Or maybe they want the sign 'ripped off the wall' so they don't have to be reminded?

Either way, stupid excuse.

Urgh, when will we move past this silly phase of everyone getting offended and anyone actually caring that they are.

Lots of people put on weight as a result of depression, and these type of adverts don't really help with mental health issues.

When I was a porkster, that sign wouldn't have offended me but it wouldn't have tempted or motivated me into signing up for a gym.

Exercise does wonders for depression, if the advert motives even one person with depression to join a gym then it will have helped with that persons mental health issues :)

This. I'm chubby and feel ashamed sometimes when I look at myself. I'm in the last year eating a lot better and healthier, going to the gym and seeing huge improvements but I still have body conscious issues and things like this don't help.

I've got thick skin and I'm normally the first person to make the fat joke etc, but you don't want a potential place where you can go do something to help yourself to body shame you as it might put you off or even worse make someone more depressed.

It's not like it's even a funny advert.

Rule #1 to surviving the zombie apocalypse - Cardio.

Bit of a naff advert, they should do something like that gym in 'Murica where they give you free pizza slices during your workout and have an alarm for when people are being overly energetic during the workout, the name escapes me though.

Fit4Less. Cheap and tacky. One in my area is attracting the local council estate and gypsy caravan parks. They have moved in to what used to be a small Asda in between a local council gym and a DW. They are not professional in the slightest; wandering around shopping centers on Valentines handing out roses to increase membership?

The low cost gym market is very competitive at the moment, with PureGym, Exercise 4 Less, Fit4less, TheGym, etc; every low cost gym company is doing this at the moment because fitness is a fast growing industry
