Do you have any idea if you need a specific width or thickness of wood to cut?

I've got the older version of the 255mm in my garage and have been using it for 4-5 years now and find it the most useful tool in the garage. It's semi-permanently set up and I find myself using it regularly.

I'd be interested in your conclusion as i'm thinking buying one myself - but I have read that some are out of alignment and hence makes it impossible to get accurate mitre cuts.

It depends on the level of accuracy you need. The less accurate part if the vertical angle which is easy to get right for a 90 degree cut using an engineers set square but less accurate when trying to get it on a set angle. For general use on skirting/decking/cabinet making mine is easily accurate enough for general use.

As an example this is the most recent project I used it on (not quite finished!):

That looks like an ideal child pen:p.

Be sensible and you'll be fine, it's pretty hard to injure yourself with a mitre saw if you're paying attention - there's only one line you have to keep your fingers clear of!

I have an Evo Rage 255mm I bought b-grade from the Evo eBay page. I've of the best buys I ever made especially whilst renovating the house!

I got a Evolution Rage3 210mm from Screwfix a few weeks back. Its a beast of a saw. Well worth the money, I'd recommend it.

So first use in Anger today.

Cut a load of wood left over from the new garage roof into just over 2m chunks. Check the true and it was a little out about 1mm over 100mm. Had a look over and noticed the ZERO gauge had been placed incorrectly was not set flat. Think the factory overtorque the little gauge which pulls it out. Reset the gauge and reset the head and its **** on.

Well worth the money.
