If it's two way then yes.

If she hadn't messaged him she's just as guilty of no contact as he is - unless he's ignored her messages for three days then I'd say no it isn't acceptable really.

He may have consistently made the effort first to contact with her sitting back & responding & now noticed a difference when he stopped? - think of it from his perspective if this is the case.

The second he stops being the proactive one, they don't speak for three days. (correct me if I'm wrong but this is the impression I got)
