Hi folks,

Looking to start a new series after going through a marathon finishing all 5 seasons of Breaking Bad in 6 weeks.

Feeling like a cop show or crime drama type thing. Current toss up between The Wire of Southland as I've heard good things about both.

Which one would you go for?

Cheers

With shows like those it's a case of watching something really good or something really really good, you can't go wrong with either.

The Wire, Southland and The Shield are all fantastic 'cop' shows.

I was, genuinely, upset when Southland was not renewed again, it was an fantastic show.

It's no competition, Southland. That's actually a damn good show, unlike that mightily over-rated borefest, The Wire.

Having binge watched the first 4 episodes of Southland last night it's a much quicker pace and more action.

Not sure it's better though, will have to complete it before I give that judgement.

Both are very much worth watching. The Wire is probably my favourite TV show. However I do appreciate it's not for everyone due to it's slower pacing.

Having caught up on both The Shield and The Wire long after they originally aired I have to say they're both equally good in their own ways - loved watching each in it's own right!

Haven't really ever watched Southland.

I don't mind slow paced TV shows in the slightest, I just think The Wire is **** and can't understand all the praise it gets.

Wire is amazing, still one of my favourite shows, Shield is great as well.

I think The Wire gets so much love because of relationship you build up with the characters through the series, I don't know another show with so many memorable characters.

Not heard of Southland before so thanks for that I have my next one to watch!

I'll definitely watch both now. Reviews here seem really positive.

I did however start with The Wire and almost finished the first season. 2 episodes to go. I like the slow burning thing as it gives me a chance to connect with the characters better. Reminds me of The Killing in a way (another great show). Will probably finish all 5 seasons by the end of the month and go on to Southland.

The Sopranos! Best TV series ever. Though The wire is brilliant, also The corner is similar to the wire.

Sons of anarchy is worth a go too. Good mix of violence, crime, humour and story.

While not on the same level as the wire, i'm quite enjoying Chicago PD :D.

I thought Southland was pretty good, but nowhere near as good as the wire for me personally. Definitely worth a watch though.

Just got done watching Southland. As a huge The Wire fan, I enjoyed it, just a bit or warning there's 5 seasons but it looks like it was cancelled after the fifth season and has no ending, unlike The Wire which draws to a close.

I'm about 3 episodes into the 3rd season of The Wire. Truly a great show and I look forward getting home in the evenings to sit down and watch an episode.

This is also the first show I've watched in years that I know I'll watch again at some point.
