A wild "spec me" thread appears...£4k, 200bhp'ish hot hatch fun

I had considered one of these already, my supervisor has a 370z and it's lovely. However surely being a Nissan at this age, would they not kick up some horrendous bills quite soon?

I understand that most of what i'm looking at could have some bad bills but a 350Z feels like a big step up from where i'm currently looking to purchase.

I can only speak for a friend that's owned an 02 plate for the last 4-5 years (of which I borrowed it for 6 months+)

He's had no big expenditure's in ownership from 50-80k, Not sure when the belts due..
Other than fairly expensive tyre's (~£200 a corner for top spec), Pads & discs arn't that costly if sourced properly and other consumables are fairly cheap.
N/A engine seems pretty bombproof (run it on 97/98) with not many horror stories.

Might be worth having a scan over the 350/370z thread on here.

this is a bargain imo, could probably be had for 3k

I don't think so somehow... Perhaps you just haven't seen one :p

Looks a fair bit more menacing than mine does. Dual exhaust tips (left aide and right side), 20 spoke wheels, lower Eibach suspension, etc. :)

You really want one in red or black with the TTE bumper though. But they are beyond rare. :(

My dad had three TTE bumpers at one point :D

Been looking into getting a Zed for myself and from my research the biggest potential cost it could throw up is the gearbox synchros - allegedly they wear badly and will require a gearbox rebuild/swap in the future, although how much this is affected by driving style I don't know for sure.

Other "common" issues: control arm/other suspension bushings, oil consumption/leakage (rev-up models only).

The rest of the things I could find were relatively minor like window motors, boot gas lifts, loose airbag sensor connection, etc.

I'm sure somebody more experienced on the subject could expand or give more details on specific issues.

Is there anything particularly wrong with this option?

When thinking of 200HP+ a 4WD it's either Impreza or Evo. These things seem a bit overlooked but they are far better looking.

GT4s are more reliable. But they are pretty rare now and good ones are worth a lot.

The problem with Imprezas and Evos is they can be a lot of work (and big money sinks), which is a shame because they are great to drive :/

Most of the reviews slate it for torquesteer.

However from reading up it's nowhere near as bad as the reviews would have you think.

You know you want shot of that Toyota ;) Go chop it in for an MPS :D

*closes Autotrader* Stop looking through my curtains... :p

I want to test drive an R32 and an MPS and some other bits, but not yet... Not yet... :)

Celica 190, its light which makes up for the slight lack of power. I was considering a 350z as well until i found out its a renault underneath.

just go test drive them... it cant hurt ;)

My mate swore by his corsa, said he would run it into the ground, he absolutely loved that stupid little thing.

When I was looking at civics, he came with me for one test drive... ONE!
And had already decided to trade in before we got back home.

Not saying that would happen tho ;) :p

The Corolla T-Sport has been seen to beat the Celica T-Sport/190 in a straight line many a time, so I don't think it is a question of weight. (nor am I sure why that happens...)

But the Celica would be a good pick. Certainly a much better handling and more sporty looking car. :)

Well good thing it doesn't have a Renault reputation then.. to be fair their engines aren't bad and Nissan and Renault have been partners for years now..
