Anyone else had this happen this year?

My premium last year was £450

This year they have quoted £650!

For no reason... even got 1 more years no claims but they said that has made virtually no difference...

they said they don't know why it's gone up so much...

problem is I have been with them 7 years, iI have 2 years personal no claims and 5 years named driver no claims, house insurance discount, multicar discount blah blah...
So I can't leave them as I loose a hefty discount which is proven online with tye next cheapest being £890..

Any ideas?

Have you shopped around for a comparison at all?

Guessing it's Admiral? - they knocked 25% off my dads just by him calling up to complain about it..

Can't really comment on price hike, mine went up a grand for crashing :p

It's direct line.

I just checked again and matched my details exactly as my policy shows. Same excess and everything.

best price is actually 391 from admiral!

How can direct line expect me to be happy with nearly £300 more with supposedly extra discounts!?

This is standard practice, if you've managed 7 years of renewals always being cheaper you've been very lucky, or unlucky I suppose as your first premiums must have been astronomical.

Confirm exactly what level of NCB will be shown on any certificate and use that figure to shop around with

Because you're going on an automated "renewal letter"?

Theyre utter *********

They cash in that the majority dont even read and just let it roll over.
You're total made up from discounts is just that "made up"

***** to em, no loyalty whatsoever when it comes to insurance

Admiral are brilliant, got mine £200 cheaper from them, than the price comparison websites

I feel like they've all hiked a bit. I'd paid £530 last year and this year they decided I wouldn't mind paying nearly £1700 for my renewal..nutters.

Ended up getting it for just over £600 from elsewhere but it seemed like every company was more expensive this year. Maybe I just got lucky last year.

All renewal quotes are stupidly expensive as they know lazy people will just pay it and not shop around. It can always knock £100-200 off mine with Admiral just by doing a quote online and having them match it

This. Quotemehappy did the same to me, utters *****.

I plan to call direct line first thing... and request they match the admiral quote or get close to £435 (cost Inc break down which I get for free as wife's cars breakdown also covers mine due to multicar policy.)

If they refuse then off I go :)

Remember that insurance tax went up in November, but that is a bit of a jump. Call them up and see what they say?

Our insurance quote with Admiral has gone up 30% this year, after only ur first year in a multicar policy with them. We have 14 years no claims and one non-fault (and zero cost to Admiral) accident in May last year. They blamed Land Rovers being higher risk for them this year apparently...will be shopping around over the next couple of weeks.

Jumping on the anti-Admiral bandwagon.

Getting insurance earlier this month - they wanted somewhere north of £3500 and were confident it was "competitive".. Went to Elephant for half that (EUI group aka Admiral...)

That sounds rather odd? I'm with Bell (who are also part of the same group) and year after year have had no issue at all getting Bell to match better quotes from Admiral, Elephant, or even Diamond compared to my renewal. You can even give them the other companies quote ref over the phone for them to match the details against as they apparently can access all of the quote references regardless which bit you are talking with. I was with Admiral in the past as well and did similar with them matching Elephant / Bell before I did switch. (I honestly can't remember why I did but I think it was something to do with Bell offering the drive other cars extension for about £30 extra before I was old enough to get it normally when Admiral didn't give that option)

I also have had experience of claiming with what actually ended up being quite a large claim (well over 5 figures) several years ago, and other than a hiccup with my courtesy car arriving a day late the process was completely trouble free.

Overall ours dropped by about £300 this year as I now have two years NCB instead of just one. Insurance group 30 at 21 doesn't help, but £1200 (£250 excess on both cars, just over £200 of the premium cost isn't my car) isn't too bad. Bare insurance from them with none of the added on bits is £910 fully comp.

Last year I had been with Aviva for a couple of years after leaving Admiral (having been with them for years) because they were too expensive. When it was time for renewal though, Aviva quoted me somewhere in the region of £LOL and they refused to budge on the phone. So back to Admiral I went, and paid not far off half as much as Aviva wanted. This year I might find Admiral are too expensive, and move to someone else (it'd be amusing if it was Aviva). You just need to shop around.
