insurance price hike...

My last year insurance with Tesco was circa 660. The renewal in January they wanted over a grand. I told them to do one. The lady on the phone couldn't explain the increase which made it even more odd.

Went elsewhere and got it down to 400 notes.

Insurance always seems like a tombola to me. They just pull prices out randomly.

DPF/Exhaust? If those are all declared, they could explain why its gone up - normally one or two mods dont make much difference but if you have a reasonable number then it does start to have more of an effect

Good luck if you have to claim from them.

Ive claimed from admiral 3-4 times now on separate occasions (a couple of total losses), and my brother just went through a total loss as well around 2 weeks ago.

Always found them to be excellent, my brother went from accident to cash in the bank in under a week. Thats not bad going!

As others have said renewals take the p. Follow the usual mantra (courtesy of MSE):

Get comparison site quotes in this order:
1. Confused.com
2. GoCompare
3. MoneySuperMarket.com
4. Compare The Market

Then check insurers they miss:
Direct Line
Aviva
Admiral MultiCar

Auto renewal creeps up every year, have to go through using comparison sites to then ring my current insurer to get them to beat or match it.

I was actually really surprised that my Swiftcover renewal last month for my Octavia was the best I could find anywhere. This is only my second year with them though.

Due the one for the S2000 in a few days so we'll see what happens there.

alloys... yes. no need for spoiler as those are an option anyway.
and yes to the map, direct line asked for £20 for that.

I think some insurers ask for all optional extras, even if factory fitted. I'm certain that the majority don't give them that info since they won't have any idea what was an option and what wasn't.

Wow. that was a very good call to Admiral.

Online i was quoted £393 at Compare the Market.

They took this and added Break Down and it was £435

They then asked about my wifes car and we went through a Multicar process.

This dropped my car to £361! WITH BD Cover!
Oh and the icing on the cake is that 300 Pro rata days of Insurance for her is £99... yes that's right... £99.

So Both car's, with BD Cover... £485....
That's Two car's... far cheaper than what Direct Line quoted for one....

Wowzers.

I found this year extremely expensive. Last year it cost be about £600. This year I was getting quotes for £750-£800 even using a broker!

Managed to get it down to £530 direct with Octagon.

Admiral multicar is usually very good as you have found.

You will likely also find Aviva multicar to be very good, i have just moved from Admiral to Aviva due to them beating them for me this year. 950hp over 3 cars for £641, seems good to me.

Insurance prices have gone up this year not helped by the insurance tax increase in November. This is the first year I have not been able to a get a cheaper price than my renewal which was £15 more than last year, I think I have bottomed out as its under £200 for the year.

Mine tried to pump my premium up by almost £100 this year to £460 for my Fiesta ST MP215 (plus a few other mods). But I managed to push them right back down again to £375 :)

I now have 10 years no claims and my 3 points have expired, yet they try and get more out of me. They always try it on at renewal time but I always haggle them down.

Admiral and Bell wanted £670 a year from me and a black box installing on my 2003 Golf GT TDi. Comparisons sites weren't great for me but I pay less than that for my modified S3 .

Spoke to who I have my other car with and it came back at £450 for the year. It does seem like insurance has gone up a little though. My mum was complaining that her insurance renewal had increased by £200 when she was only paying £120 for the year! She shopped around but couldn't get it cheaper than what she paid the year before.

Take it you didn't declare them when you got that £390 quote of Admiral
Admiral dont cover remap's and for any other mods they bump it up something silly so £390 sounds like a standard Mazda quote to me. :p

does seem to have gone up quite a bit this year though that is on the back of some enormous reductions I the 2 or 3 previous years

Got the same on my car from Admiral this year. Paid £320 last year and they wanted £450 this year.

Used comparethemarket and got a quote for £302 from some someone i've never heard of, called Admiral up and got told that the computer "can't automatically add discounts to the quotes and the agents have to do it"...

After all the "Discounts" I got it down to £304 which was close enough.

Same thing happened with AA tbh. Quoted £150 for roadside and homestart, phoned them up, said I found it cheaper elsewhere and got it both for £80 instead..
