asus gene 4 and gigabyte x99m

anyone know if the mounting holes for the cpu heatsink in the above 2 motherboards are the same layout as regards waterblock mounting ?

i have seen a ppic of each but not 100% sure

The mounting should be exactly the same, just remember to get an lga 2011 v3 block as X99 ones are bigger than the Zxx ones.

Errr.

Not quite.

Usually with X99 you have four standoffs that screw into the metal plate that surrounds the cpu socket, then attach the block with thumb screws onto the standoffs.

Socket 1155/56 etc you normally use a backplate that you fit standoffs into through the actual pcb.

There is the exwb predator AIO cooler that I seen you have to punch through X99 (the holes are already there on most boards, just a bit of paper or rubber material to get out of the way) to fit, no idea if their blocks are the same.

This is correct. I thought they were both X99 boards.
