Per title, can a bank transfer into someone's account be reversed?

Trying to make a sale online, however unsure if bank transfer is a safe means to accept payment. Don't wish to use paypal as utterly despise them from a previous encounter!

I'd ring your bank and ask, I know some changes were made recently to allow mistaken payments to be clawed back, I'd honestly never dare buy anything off someone with bank transfer remotely - unless it was in a private forum with strict rules, where everyone is vetted.

However I feel your pain about Paypal, had a shouting match with them on the phone again today....... worn out from them holding £1k of my money.... ****** cowboys, and I too utterly despise them

It's very unlikely but possible. If it were to happen though it would have to be within hours of the payment (claiming they paid the wrong person). Keep any proof just in case. I would hope they would ask you if you were expecting the payment before reversing anything.

PayPal gift is a big no-no for this. I thought gift payments were irreversible but all it takes is for them to tell PayPal it was unauthorized and they will reverse it. And as no items are supposed to have change hands, chat logs/proof of posting etc. will be useless.

This. Unless the transaction can be proven to be fraudulent then once it's in your bank it's yours.

This isn't quite true. If you get money in your bank that isn't yours, it doesn't automatically make it yours.

A bit pedantic perhaps, but true. You can't go 'omg someone accidentally paid 5k into my bank let's go buy all the things'.

...and not expect to have to give the money back.

The topic is about an online sale, not one of those cases where a senior suddenly finds 10 million in their account.

I did have something like this happen to me a while ago.

A sum of money appeared in my account.

Obviously I didn't spend it but it wasn't reclaimed until I gave written permission to allow this to be done.

This took some time because initial attempts at contact by the bank were thwarted because I do not answer phone calls with withheld or generic numbers.

Same here,NEVER EVER pick up an unknown number on my phone or mobile
Life is too short to be wasting precious seconds on some muppet trying to sell you something you don`t want or need :(

All the outgoing calls from Hampshire Police are withheld numbers. Thank god at least sometimes people pick up.

Given that you (As an organisation) know perfectly well that many people block/ignore withheld numbers you (as an organisation) really need to rethink your policy!

Slightly off topic but wasnt someone paid something like £178 trillion accidentally by paypal making them the richest person in the world for a couple of hours?

Papal definately managed to reverse the bank transfer

Papal definately managed to reverse the bank transfer

Did the recipient get to keep the interest??

Even a couple of hours worth would set you up for life! :D

They made a mistake as they were transferring it to Panama.

If a transfer is done in error you'd need to contact the bank to try and reverse it. However there's no guarantee they'll be able to or how long it will take. All down to how co-operative the other bank and the party you transferred to are.

Most likely they know this, but as long as they prove they've attempted to make the call a box can be ticked to say they've tryed to contact someone.

We have an answer phone.if callers do not like to leave a message then in my opinion they are up to no good
Many times the machine kicks in with the outgoing message only for the person/machine at the other end to hang up
Why should I keep answering. Unwanted calls?
They won`t leave they're number because they don`t want to be bothered at home I guess:p
