Heading up to Birmingham this weekend and this is a city I'm unfamiliar with.

Staying at the malmaison but rather than eating there I fancy a nice Chinese restaurant somewhere within walking distance.

Any suggestions?

There's absolutely tons of them in the Chinese quarter - just follow the signs and walk it - 5 mins from MM.

It's not Chinese but I don't care it's amazing, Anderson's bar and grill in St Pauls Sq. Best steak I have ever eaten and there's plenty of nice little pubs round there as well.

It'll be the best fiver you've ever spent on a taxi.

That's Brindley Place off Broad St I think, although not famous for it's Chinese. :p

Yes it's not famous for it's Chinese. I feel silly now as I realise now that that's what the OP was asking for. Doh !

Still, the Brass House is a nice place, I know cause I briefly worked there in the kitchen as a commis chef. We did a great Balti, but no Chinese. ;)

Henry's in St Pauls Square is a good shout, or there's Jimmy Wong's on Hagley Road (a bit further out of the city, but not anything too mental). Both were pretty good when I've been there, I tend to go to Henry's more often though.

If you fancy a different type of cuisine, I'd whole heartedly recommend checking out Bodegas which is walking distance from the Mailbox, you'll probably need to book a table in advance as it's super busy ,but the food is incredible.

Most places in the Chinese quarter will be decent enough. Shanghai Shanghai is very good for dim sum in Arcadian. Henry Wong in Harborne is fantastic and a bit classier than your standard in the centre of town.

Anderson's is fantastic, lovely setting and great food, however Fiesta Del Asado on Hagley Rd is awesome and is now my go to place for steak.

You should however be eating curry in Brum!

Not chinese but check out Purecraft if beer is something your into. Good foods and a good selection of craft/decent beer.

I quite like Brum it's got that city feel without being massive and there's plenty of pleasant places to eat, drink and be merry while avoiding the usual drunken hoards on broadstreet.

Telford on the other hand.... :p
