Euros - Pay on card, ATM or exchange £ before i arrive?

You say that but the rate is better than a lot of consumer exchange places will give you on smaller sums.

So? That's like saying a headache is better an than an arm-ache, they both still suck.

Today's rate on a Clarity would be 1.417.

As for easier - how is faffing about transferring cash easier than simply doing nothing and then presenting your credit card for payment or inserting it into an ATM once you arrive?

I have been using a Clarity card for years and have been to Europe, USA and the Far East and used it everywhere. The exchange rate is always better than cash, i dont know how they do it!

I got a Caxton FX card for a trip through Europe last year.

My criticism with Caxton is that the associated phone app ran a couple of days behind what I'd actually spent, so in the end I wasn't sure whether there was any money left on it so started using my Natwest Mastercard for purchases.

Turns out when I got home there was £200 left which I transferred back from the Caxton card and haven't used it since.

They do it because they don't need to profit from loading the exchange rate because they profit from the merchant fees when you make a purchase.

I'm sure they loved taking a cut through the exchange rate when you took the cash back just as much as they loved doing it when you put the cash on, too. This is why these cards suck - people overload them, get ripped off on the rate, then they get another go at you when you take the cash back!

Clarity card for purchases certainly.
They do still charge for cash withdrawals don't they?
As in the usual credit card business of interest from the time of withdrawal?

Can one preload the card?

Get a revolt card. best exchange rate, hassle free, and a nice app too

Just been looking at this and I will probably use this in Portugal next month.

We have a very basic bank account an Halifax Card Cash, no credit cards and a bank with an overdraft as my parter has had serious debt problems.

We would get ripped off using the Cardcash, these pre-paid look ideal, how do they compare to the Post Office Card?
